A spirited young girl, a forbidden love and a coming-of-age tale that will have you on the edge of your sofa (plus a rather dashing male lead or two) it has all the elements of a familiar Sunday night drama. But the BBC's latest offering, A Suitable Boy, which starts tomorrow night, is anything but familiar. For the six-part series is the first in the corporation's history to have a cast entirely made up of people of colour.

I don’t get it.
Why would the Beeb pay to produce it?
Why not buy it from Bollywood. It would surely be less expensive.
But what the heck, eh? Geezers are about to lose their boob tube tax exemption. Life is good again. The Beeb will be rolling in other people’s money. It will have more cash to burn.
I just watched the trailer. It looks terrible.
Of course I don’t care for love stories, or India.
Brits need to have themselves a T(V)-party.
We’ve seen some excellent police procedurals produced in India. Available on Amazon. Not sure if they’re available dubbed since we prefer subtitles. But very good.
Why do some people of color act like they are the only color that matters?
They’re no better than anyone else!
I live outside of Philly with a large population of Indians nearby. They are the rudest people I have ever met.
Hollywood can exclude white writers, actors, film crews and directors but they cannot FORCE people to watch the nonsense they then create. It is probably the best thing to happen in Hollywood...its suicide.
It’s ridiculous.
I just watched a movie called Death at a Funeral with an almost all black cast, except for 3 white guys.
It was hysterical. And the 3 white guys weren’t any more boobs than all of the black guys :-)
I watched it for free signing up to BET for a free week and promptly cancelling after watching it :-)
That being said, I do not go out of my way to watch any particular race or ethnicity on TV or in movies.
If something is good, it is good.
that they are pushing so hard the fact that it is almost all colored folks tells me it’s probably not that good already.
Or they wouldn’t have to sell it so hard.
The Indian citizens we know, some naturalized and some not, have all been really good eggs. But we don’t live in a major metro. That may have something to do with it. The naturalized and folks who have lived here for generations are culturally indistinguishable. Also good eggs, though. Again, not a major metro area.
I don’t think big city life is beneficial for most folks, no matter the skin color or culture.
Filmed entirely in India.
No obvious Black or Hispanic actors.
Racist.
Why should I enrich the BBC? I’d rather watch Bollywood straight from India. I’m sure they are less “woke” there, and if it helps to hurt Hollywood, it’s great!
My wife and I laugh at how the BBC shoe horns blacks into every program.
Ancient Rome? Some black guy is a Senator.
Battle of Hastings ? Black guy as William the Conquerors advisor.
Elizabethan England? A black captain of a privateer.
It’s an eyeball every time.
Re: Geezers are about to lose their boob tube tax exemption.
Was that legislated under “Conservative” Boris Johnson?
Ah, but does the production meet the proper percentages of LGBTQXYZ? On camera AND behind? Who is doing the certification? Have they purchased the sufficient carbon credits to offset the killing of electrons? Do they include the minority religions?
So many standards, so little time.
BoJo is threatening to turn the Beeb into a subscription service. Getting OAPs, Old Age Pensioners, po’d can only help.
Not interested in junk, in fact I just canceled Showtime because of all their liberal trash.
I’m outside the city. I think they’re almost all H1-B people.
I assume they are all Indian citizens. They wear traditional Indian clothing.
When I walk by I’ll say hello, and they won’t even look at me.
Anyway, I take each individual into consideration. I’m just speaking of my general opinion.
Thank you - that is unexpected and pleasant news.

And so the trend continues. Racism is bad, unless it is good racism. Discrimination is bad, unless it is good discrimination.
In the early days of Hollywood they would make movies with the cast all being “ people of color”. These were made for theaters in the south that were for “colored people” only.
Just when you think we are making progress we fall back into tribalism.
The program will most likely be successful since there is a large population from India in the United Kingdom.
