A couple of years ago, an innocent young teen was murdered in a “bodega” in the Bronx. IIRC the victim and his killers were Dominican.
Why does 13% of the population cause over 50% of the violent crime.

Its a shame we are part of NYC.
People always ask me about the crime and riots etc.
I go to brooklyn during the week for different purposes and have seen a number of marches.
But Staten Island is home and I NEVER see crime or riots or have been a victim of one.
To fully get the point across..there is ONE bridge to staten island from the other boroughs. It is EIGHTEEN DOLLARS for non Staten Island folks.
It’s 6 for us.
The other intra borough bridges are FREE.
NO ONE is coming to staten island from the bad neighborhoods in the other boroughs and paying 18 bucks to get here, see they don’t belong and then go back.
The ferry is free but there is no subway system, just local train and almost ALL of the stops will leave you in an Italian neighborhood that you will never leave again if you act up.

I just checked. That so-called Bodega has a Middle Eastern sounding name, and the logo has what I think looks like a hookah on it. If the pic I was looking at is current.
If the owners are of Middle Eastern descent, that might explain some of the animus. Bigotry.
In nearby north Newark NJ the first group was Puerto Ricans in the 1950s, then Cubans in the 1960s, and within the past couple of decades a lot of Dominicans (even a lot of South Americans now). Along the Hudson River in NJ there are a lot of Cubans (Union City/West New York), and across the river is “Spanish Harlem” (I believe that was primarily Puerto Rican).
So when they named Bodega Bay (The Birds) they knew there were going to be stores there?
Maybe - though in Spain it would mean a wine store.
