(Vanity) Favorite type of steak for grilling?

Posted on 07/20/2020 3:04:42 PM PDT by neverevergiveup

Sorry for the vanity post, but I have a day off tomorrow (first in awhile) and was thinking about grilling steaks. Would love to hear from FReepers about their favorites. Porterhouse? Filet? Sirloin/sirloin tips? Ribeye? Marinated? Rubbed?

Ribeye is my favorite, but try a nice long, thin skirt steak, 3-4 minutes a side.

Porterhouse about 3” thick [3 fingers] cooked over lump charoal 4 to 5 mins flat sides, 3 to 4 other sides...should be very rare.
Salt only.
Sprinkle of flake salt last minute.
Rest 5 min.
Slice about the bone.
I usually serve with a potato onion and mushroom dish, seasoned with montreal blend.

Favorite? Period. Sirloin. Cheap and good, but not so cheap as the bad meat.

I like other stuff but sirloin is the best deal.

Well your taste in steak and cooking method is the best posted here. I do the same.

When I’m doing steaks, I always throw in some grilled corn. ..in husk plus a few large potatoes. Then some beans. ....

My beans are one can of Wolf Brand Chili with one can of Ranch beans. ..chopped onions and some jalapeño. .. Put them in a aluminum disposable pan and cover with foil.

Don’t forget your butter. ....

BTW pour on seasoning of choice with tenderizer, and use Worcestershire sauce to help latter. I like Montreal seasonings but it varies.

Well, if you're cooking for that one relative who happens to be a vegan, you could go with one of these:

(Otherwise, just go with a good, healthy, grass-fed ribeye for the dirty vegan, as that certainly involves lots of plants too.)

...”What does NY know about steak anyway?
They probably know the best cuts of rat...........”

NY can barely make a pastrami on rye. Pizza? If you like ketchup on a slab of cardboard. ....

Chuck eye steaks are affordable and have a good flavor. The past two years prices have gone up as they get more popular though. But reasonable compared to the higher cuts.

I was a T-Bone person for decades, but have switched to NY Strip.

Now I want a steak.

Thanks a ton everyone (so far)! I’m so hungry now! Honestly, there should be a FReeper cookbook, with proceeds going to Jim to keep the lights on.
