When all the kids ask, “Can we keep it?” you know domestication is only a few thousand years away.

We didn’t domesticate cats. We came to a mutually beneficial agreement.

Cats were highly revered in ancient Egypt as protectors against many things - I believe that I once read that they were considered protectors against infectious diseases.

Well, they start off with a major error:
“Even so, we did it.”
People domesticated horses and dogs. Cats doemesticated themselves.

"These features make the species averse to domestication. Even so, we did it."
I'm not so sure "we" did it, maybe it's more like cats were self-domesticated.

I think dogs and cats were probably both domesticated because they had very practical uses. And also if times got real hard it’s much better for tribe morale if fido or puss goes into the communal stewpot rather than grandma or grandpa.
