Brooklyn College unveils ‘anti-racist agenda’ for professors
NY Post ^ | July 11, 2020 | Melissa Klein

In what one professor calls “affirmative action” grading, Brooklyn College wants to “re-educate” instructors whose minority students have lousy grades, The Post has learned.

In an eight-point “anti-racist” agenda shared with the school community this month, college president Michelle Anderson said the school had “recently raised funds to offer professional development to faculty in classes with the highest racial disparities in outcomes” and the most grades of D or F or withdrawals.

I see the city universities are taking a giant step BACKWARD once again. There was a time about 15-20 years ago that several NYC city colleges were exposed in the media as having nearly all their students having to take 1-3 years of non-credit "remedial courses"--i.e., high school level work. At the time, it was a scandal. Taxpayers paid for the students' high school education. They did not apply themselves properly at that time, but still ended up in colleges where they did not belong at all. Since when does anyone practically illiterate make it to college? So they'd have to take remedial courses to prepare to take college level courses, and the taxpayer would have to subsidize high school level once again.

So now it's being noticed that some " minority students have lousy grades". Rather than put the onus on the student's lack of readiness to even BE in college, Brooklyn College wants to "re-educate" instructors whose minority students are doing poorly. They want to impose an "anti-racist" agenda on the insructors and "professional development" to those instructors with the highest numbers of minority students receiving D or F grades or withdrawing from the classes. How ridiculous is this? And where does the pandering administration get the idea that giving a minority student the D or F they deserve is "RACIST"? Are minorities to be excused every and any bit of personal responsibility? Sounds like Communist China. That's probably where they got this idiotic idea.

So, the student is relieved of blame or responsibility for their rotten grades. Just like NYC high schools, it's the TEACHER whose fault it is. The TEACHER made the minority student skip class. The TEACHER made the minority student get high or drunk instead of studying for the test the next day. The TEACHER made the minority student stay up playing video games instead of working on their project, and the TEACHER made the minority student disrupt the class so that no one could learn. Now, it's the PROFESSOR who is going to be blamed for the minority students simply not being college material or serious about their studies. Another step DOWNWARD in the U.S. educational system. Another trophy for "getting along with teammates" or "trying".

And, this pandering libtard college president Anderson wants to offer “culturally relevant programs at the College [to] ensure that we deepen our anti-racist pedagogy.” Oh, so now chemistry 101 is "racist"? How utterly ridiculous. And we expect these students to go out into the world and take jobs, and not cry "RACIST!" at their employers when they put in a mediocre effort and blame it on anyone but themselves---behavior learned from the pandering going on in NYC high schools and now colleges? More of NYC's hull sinking below the waves.

Progressives should be forced to use only affirmative action grade inflation racism doctors, fly only their planes and drive over their bridges.

This is nothing new; for many years certain minorities have been allowed into colleges without real elementary school educations.

A co-worker has a daughter that was one of these; works as an admin assistant in a gubmint job because she can’t pass the bar exam. Once you give them meaningless fake degrees, you have to provide meaningless fake jobs as well. Of course, the gubmint is also always threatening the private sector with lawsuits if they don’t put a bunch of these useless tokens on the payroll as well.

I used to teach at a basketball powerhouse university. My first semester there, it was about 2 weeks before the final exam and two BB players came in and said; “We’re here for the final.” I reminded them it was still 2 weeks away. They said they knew that but they wanted a copy of the final now so they could “use it to study for the final”. I said no. After arguing for a few minutes, they realized I wasn’t going to change my mind, so they left.

About 13 seconds later, a full professor who was so far to the left he was invisible, came into my office literally screaming at me that I denied the two players a copy of the exam. I asked why I should do that, and I got the usual drivel about how they are disadvantaged and need a break. I told him that these two players were not going to make it in the NBA, but they will find a job as a ?? University graduate. It will take their employer about a day to figure out they didn’t learn a thing in school. They will get fired, but they also destroyed the chance of other ?? University grads from ever getting a job there. So, my answer remains “No”.

I never had another athlete in any of my classes during my 4 years there.

I see, white and Asian students have to work and earn grades. “Minorities” are just passed.

If they can’t do the work throw them out.

The only time that dynamic is mentioned is when some pro athlete gets injured young and ends up living on the street; then everyone bemoans the fact that he never really received an “education” (despite his degree).

Watching interviews with pro athletes of certain groups exposes the hoax...

When I was a university instructor many moon ago I once has three football players in the same class. Two were black, one was white.

The black players missed class.
The white player did not.

The white player aced everything.
The black players barely got by.

The black players seemingly had no plans for their lives.
The white player said he had wanted to be a surgeon but that would never happen now. I asked why not (knowing he had the intelligence needed to be a surgeon). He showed me his hands. His knuckles were all busted up from playing football. He was going to become a medical doctor, he said, but he would never really be able to perform fine surgery.

I hope he made it. I hope the other two also made it.

Society has given a “pass” to blacks far too long. If they truly want no discrimination, that has to stop.

BU has about 17,000 students. Does it have an engineering school? If so, woe unto those who try to cross bridges designed by its AA graduates.

I’d cut my contributions to my alma mater, Brooklyn College, but it’s already at $0...

Look here I’m just gonna call a spade a spade

This is all social science crap

The entirety of social sciences is crap

Go to the University with a purpose

For example my undergraduate degree is in chemical engineering

And my masters was mechanical engineering.

If you go to the university and you take a real subject( wow! )

where it’s competitive ; with a bunch of Asian kids

you’ll actually maybe learn something !!!! Something real !!!

and get a real job Yes. JOB !

and you won’t have time to go out in the street and whine and virtue signal

Back in the 70s Brooklyn College was a very good school and students received a great education that was very affordable. The Dept. Chair at my grad school was an BC Alumni. Took my kids there about 20 years later to look around and the grounds were a wreck. They had put up security fences around the place because the neighborhood had gone downhill. I hope things have gotten better since then.
