Country band Lady A has filed a lawsuit over trademark rights against a blues singer who uses the same name.
In June, the band -- previously known as Lady Antebellum -- changed their name "after much personal reflection" and conversations with "closest Black friends" because the word "Antebellum" refers to a period of time "which includes slavery," they said.
A blues singer from Seattle, Wash., however, had already been using the name for more than two decades.
Now, the country trio is taking legal action, a rep confirmed to Fox News, after the blues singer -- whose name is Anita White -- has allegedly made an attempt to enforce purported trademarks rights in a mark that Plaintiffs have held for more than a decade," per the suit.
Additionally, the suit -- which was filed on Wednesday in Nashvilles U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee -- reportedly alleges that White and her representation delivered a draft settlement agreement that included an exorbitant monetary demand. According to Billboard, $10 million was requested.

Bad optics to do this.

This will go nowhere fast.
Some people are their own worst enemy.
Anna White is a black woman. Ruh Roh. Is Lady Antebellum racist for suing a black woman?
Maybe they should just change their name to Lady Reconstruction instead.
While I think the blues singer is in the right, “ $10 million was requested.”, that’s just negotiating room.
“It’s a quarter after one, I’m a little drunk and I just sued a black singer whose name I stole to prove how woke I am, yeah yeah...”
I thought she would have been better off changing her name to “Lady Anti-Bellum”. The path that she’s chosen is not very bright.
Lady A Hole.
How about Lady W. or Lady Woke?
And the Dixie Chicks are now the Chicks. Also bad optics....
I think the blues singer should countersue.
They are suing because they are mealy mouthed pushovers.
How about Lady Auntie Bella?
“Lady A” could be interpreted a number of ways. I’m thinking of a word ending in “hole”.
White supremacy mount sounds like to me. Who owns the trademark/copyright?
Whats the point in white privilege if you dont exercise it once in awhile?
This ‘country-band’ will disappear by the end of this year, and just pretend they never existed.
