"We've learned more due to research and additional scientific evidence and now we know [that] not only wearing a mask prevents the person wearing the mask to transmit to others, but wearing the mask protects the person who's wearing it," said Dean Blumberg, chief of pediatric infectious diseases at UC Davis Childrens Hospital. "So the wearer of the mask, even the standard rectangular surgical masks...will decrease the risk of infection by the person wearing the mask by about 65 percent."

Odd how it contradicts many other studies that show that typical homemade masks are not effective in stopping the spread. Those studies do not depend on modeling.
That makes sense. The one study I read showed that quilt batting between two layers of 600 thread count cotton had good results of filtering out smaller particles. The caveat was that it had to fit so there were no gaps. Can you imagine trying to be out in 90 degree heat plus high humidity in such a thing?
Bump
OK Karen
then you just delay when you get it, because you WILL get it, everyone will. Sorry, thats just the way it is.
Look at your local hospitals... if they have room.. now is a great time to go ahead and expose yourself.
And what is wrong with “just delay when you get it?” Medical researchers are finding out new information every day about this virus...It is new, many unknowns.
Would it not be better to delay contracting the NEW likely bio-engineered virus after the science is more settled? Preventative and Treatment Protocols or Vaccines are being developed as time goes on.
And how do you happen to be able to state seemingly as fact that “everyone WILL get it???” How do YOU know “it is just the way it is?” Can you back up your statement?
Pretty sure not everyone got Spanish Flu? Bird Flu? Swine Flu...that is not “just the way it is.”
Seriously??? Are you advocating attending one of those coronavirus parties?
“Look at your local hospitals... if they have room, now is a great time to go ahead and expose yourself.” Is that why TX has 9,000 positives and 9,000 admissions today with some ICUs full according to Fox News?
Sorry, COVID-19 is not the chicken pox or measles, And there are some people who really cannot afford to get it—like my son who had TB...
Even Pence and Hannity are saying wearing mask is a good idea—so did President this evening on his interview Hannity...
First. Those studies did not focus on the typical handmade mask that most people are wearing. The studies were based on either surgical masks or respirators. It is well known that such masks help slow/prevent the spread of infection.
Second. Masks were used as part of the overall infection prevention methods taken in health care settings. Nowhere is it claimed that masks should not be used in conjunction wit other such measures.
A thin strip of ill fitting cotton placed haphazardly over the nose and mouth is not the same thing as PPE mask suitable for health care settings.
And these are the same kind of papers written in favor of hydroxychloroquine treatment of SARS 2 that are Pooh Pooh Ed because they are not RANDOMIZED peer review tests
IF masks are do very effective then open the country up completely
But of course they arent because people dont wear them properly, they certainly dont sterilize cloth ones, and they do not dispose of them in a proper manner
So glad so many of these are straight out of the CCP factory labs
Most deal with SARS...yes a corona virus so what. We dont wear masks during flu season if we are healthy. Masks get worn by cancer patients who are immune compromised if they have to be out
Wearing a mask if I am healthy is as stupid as quarantining healthy people
Look. Its from observing Covid before it hit America. My relatives in Korea.
They never had to shut down the economy. But people wear masks. And elderly are cared for by tradition.
We had the most lopsided roll out of a lockdown ever, with nursing homes left the most vulnerable. We should have never closed everything down in he first place...but protected the most vulnerable.
There is no usable vaccine for SARS, of which this coronavirus is a variant.
But what they are neglecting to tell you are the health issues (both physical and psychological) that accompany mask wearing. This whole thing is a set up.
Correction. A few did deal with the wearing of typical homemade masks but those were ones that used modeling to reach the conclusion. And again it included other measures such as hand washing and social distancing.
Every week there is another epiphany until they run out of experts.
Thank you for this list!
These 'experts' (and I use that term extremely loosely as they couldn't find their asses with both hands and a road map) sound just like the commercials for the latest "ask your doctor for..." TV ads. They fail to mention that wearing a mask cuts oxygen levels, traps germs, and creates more risks for every age group that wears one.
Besides being sock puppets for Bill Gates' population-extermination vaccine program, Dr. FauXi and Dr. Scarf have both only worn masks for the camera and another of their so-called "experts" licks her finger at the turn of each page as she rolls out the latest lists of dictates from on high. Biden wears his mask either as a beard net or an ear ring.
"But the virus, but the virus" proclaim the DNC parrot media. Man-made virus that has very little staying power unless it is continually spread by importing more infected or providing false positives. I hate to say it to those who were duped or think otherwise, but it is a HOAX folks!
Aren’t the liberals always saying “My choice, my body’’.?
Thank you for posting this—had not seen this.
At some point everyone on the planet will be exposed. If not now, later. We cant wear masks forever against every virus. Theyre all horrible. Stomach viruses, respiratory, viruses with risks of paralysis, etc. Best to get your body to maximum healthy status and get exposed and get a small case and be done.
Yes, this is the path to reopening.
But of course they arent because people dont wear them properly, they certainly dont sterilize cloth ones, and they do not dispose of them in a proper manner
It isn't hard to wear a mask correctly. If education is all that's holding us back, we need about 45 seconds of teaching to gets us through this.
