An unsigned letter circulated among the Los Angeles Police Department rank and file last week, encouraging officers to call in sick to protect their own interests.
It had been been a month of upheaval for police, with unprecedented protests over police killings of Black people and the Los Angeles City Council agreeing to cut the LAPDs budget by $150 million amid calls for sweeping reforms.
LAPD commanders are investigating whether an unusual spike in officers calling in sick over the July 4 weekend was the result of an orchestrated protest or labor action, which would be illegal. Sources in the department told The Times up to 300 officers called in sick in what many in the department suspect was a Blue Flu.
Najee Ali, a longtime civil rights activist in South L.A., where many of the call-ins occurred, said the effort was clearly intended to punish activists for demanding police funding be reallocated elsewhere, and should be a huge cause for concern

I know where Najee can place a rusty chainsaw...
Nelson ha ha.
Let’s investigate to find fault with others. No need to reflect on our own leadership decisions. No, we couldn’t possibly be responsible for the falling morale of all those under our authority.
With such leadership we are all in trouble.
So what if it was an orchestrated protest. Liberals love organized protests.
Good for the cops. Hope the liberal elites are getting a taste of life after they defund their police departments
I grew up in SoCal, long ago. I don’t remember many people called either Najee or Ali. I guess times have changed.
Probably very few having second thoughts about retiring.
You want an organized protest? i just learned that a California sheriff can take a 150 dollar reduction in their pension and make the beneficiary their minor child. there are 55 year old sheriffs having kids and when they die there kid, even if they are newborn, will get their pension for their entire life. guy can work 20 years and get 100 years of pension payments. Protest that.
Yeah, all those LAPD killings of all those unarmed black people in Los Angeles. How many? 3 in the last 2 years? Maybe zero in the last two years?
Sounds like rampant genocide. Defund? Heck, just eliminate the oppressive department.

Sherlockism!

I can answer that without an investigation.
Some was probably legitimate. Some was likely the result of the lack of backing from the city administration.
Now, try to figure out which was which.
Where do I send a bill?
All the police should just walk out for a week or more, and say “You wanna defund the police? Here’s what your city will look like after you do! Maybe we’ll be back, maybe we won’t- “
Ya think?
Yep. Let’s throw the officers under the bus, then wonder why morale is low and they call out and blame them in the process.
I had a capt. come into a classroom and tell the officers and sgts. that if there was a morale problem, it started at our level, not at the top.
“LAPD investigates whether spike in officer sick calls over July 4th weekend was an orchestrated protest”
I’m confused ... wouldn’t police not showing up for work be considered showing solidarity with the city council’s aim to defund the police?
Up his nose, or somewhere else? 😁
Six-figure pension payments...
