Mayor Jenny Durkan defends the foolish and dangerous decision to protest on a freeway in the middle of the night. But when you protest in front of her house, she throws a fit.
**SNIP**
I certainly agree that no one should risk their life during a protest. That is why its troubling that the Washington State Patrol chief allows protests on the freeway without legal consequence. They could do the smart and safe thing, which is arrest people who walk on the freeway. But that would be too hard. They might earn the Twitter ire of keyboard warriors.
Whats remarkable here, however, is the about-face from Durkan.
**SNIP**
Protest in front of her house and Durkan gets mad. But when it comes to protesting on a freeway in the middle of the night? Well, Durkan will defend you, pretending the act isnt inherently dangerous or illegal.
Durkans response is driven purely by politics. Shes scared of a far-Left challenger as she runs for re-election. Its why shes pandering to the protester base, hoping they dont back an opponent (likely Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda).
Shes signaling to them that shes got their backs. Except she doesnt, they know that, and they will never vote for her.

Now we begin to understand why the guillotine was necessary.
The idea that someone or a group will set up a ‘play-ground’ or demonstration on a freeway, and this being the thought process of 20 to 30 year old people...leaves me to wonder if they are truly adults, mentally challenged, or still just juvenile in behavior.
Then you add to it...doing this at night, no florescent vests, no flares, no orange barrels? What child would organize something like this?
The public should go and demand a simple law that says demonstrations on freeways or interstates will invoke a $10,000 fine on each single occasion, for each single individual. Don’t leave any room for the judges or prosecutors to wiggle out of it.
What’ll be curious to me is the background to the dead 24-year old...if she wasted four years in college, and what debt she now leaves.
No that other council member...the Pakistani...
The Constitution says “Right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”
How in the hell is people blocking a freeway in the middle of the night a petition to the government?, or peaceful?
According to KIRO-7, investigators have identified the women as Summer Taylor, 24, of Seattle and Diaz Love, 32, of Bellingham. Taylor suffered critical, life-threatening injuries and Love is in serious condition. (Update at 9:59pm: A spokesperson for Harborview announced Taylor passed away early Saturday evening. Lowe remains in serious condition in intensive care.)
I checked and the Love/Lowe spelling is from the article.
Mead said troopers did not know whether it was a targeted attack.
Video on social media showed a white car traveling at a high rate of speed navigate around two vehicles positioned across the lanes as a barrier.
What a load to unpack.
"Targeted attack"? "High rate of speed"?
The guy exits a freeway with a posted speed of at least 55 mph and is not expecting to see vehicles blocking the roadway (no flashers?), much less pedestrians slow walking across his right of way.
I do not know the rules of a vehicular assault charge in WA but he should at most be charged with a failure to stop and render aid - unless he was in fear for his life.
Having watched the video twenty-odd times...I would say that concussion for younger gal was probably contributing to her end. The older gal (32) probably has two broken legs and will require most of a year in physical rehab.
The black guy (the driver), as long as he passes the alcohol/drug tests...I have my doubts that they can sustain charges on him. The city streets department bears some responsibility because they marginally put up a barrier, and this blocked path wasn’t efficient.
Seems to me, Chop got shut down, and the idiots simply moved to the interstate/freeway, as their next protest point. You add it up...four dead so far, two or three extremely wounded...all leading back to the protest movement (not the police).
