Keep in mind, no studies have been done to demonstrate that either a cloth mask or the N95 mask has any effect on transmission of the COVID-19 virus.
Now that we have established that there is no scientific evidence necessitating the wearing of a face mask for prevention, are there dangers to wearing a face mask, especially for long periods? Several studies have indeed found significant problems with wearing such a mask. This can vary from headaches, to increased airway resistance, carbon dioxide accumulation, to hypoxia, all the way to serious life-threatening complications.
While most agree that the N95 mask can cause significant hypoxia and hypercapnia, another study of surgical masks found significant reductions in blood oxygen as well. In this study, researchers examined the blood oxygen levels in 53 surgeons using an oximeter. They measured blood oxygenation before surgery as well as at the end of surgeries.4 The researchers found that the mask reduced the blood oxygen levels (pa02) significantly. The longer the duration of wearing the mask, the greater the fall in blood oxygen levels.
The importance of these findings is that a drop in oxygen levels (hypoxia) is associated with an impairment in immunity. Studies have shown that hypoxia can inhibit the type of main immune cells used to fight viral infections called the CD4+ T-lymphocyte. This occurs because the hypoxia increases the level of a compound called hypoxia inducible factor-1 (HIF-1), which inhibits T-lymphocytes and stimulates a powerful immune inhibitor cell called the Tregs. . This sets the stage for contracting any infection, including COVID-19 and making the consequences of that infection much graver. In essence, your mask may very well put you at an increased risk of infections and if so, having a much worse outcome.5,6,7

Fake. This guy is a nut case.
Here’s his bio; sounds a little kooky:

I have been suggesting for a while to give up on face masks, and use a full clear face shield, which also protects the eyes, and provides relatively free air circulation beneath the shield, allowing the exhalation of breath and the dispersal of high CO2 concentrations. And in the case of a cough, your mouth is automatically covered.
Also easier on your ears, and facial recognition is still possible.
tina will vouch for that in typical New Yawker fashion

Is he the guy in the movie 2012 that got a front row seat to Yellowstone park blowing up? Just wondering...
I just use the free mask costco gave me. I can’t get enough air through it so I modified it. I cut along the inner folds, leaving a bit of mask every couple of inches to hold it together. Now I can breathe as if the mask isn’t even there. Sure, people can see the holes, but nobody really notices.
Works great.
So, according to your rationale... any conservative must be kooky because a liberal rag publishes an article painting conservatives with a colored & feigned brush. Okay, got it.
AKA the Welder look
The link you provided is a hit piece not a bio. Not that you would care to look into your source. The “Genetic Literacy Project” was and still is a front group for Monsanto, the Vinyl Institute, and Merisant, a Monsanto spin-off that manufactured artificial sweeteners. They were going after this guy because he is an advocate for natural whole foods.
Way to go... smearing someone who wrote a very good and accurate article! The leftist media is very proud of you!
That, and those of us who have to wear a Woke Mask of the Beast just to keep our jobs.
He’s a loon, and this has been posted before.
Yes they do! A new study out of Hong Kong shows that wearing a routine surgical mask reduces transmission through respiratory droplets by as much as 75%. They did this study in response to WHO questioning the usefulness of masks. The study was done in hamsters. They place the animals in 3 different scenarios to assess the effectiveness of masks. One with masks just on infected subjects, another with masks on healthy subjects and third with no masks at all. A fan was blown between the two cages to allow for transmission of droplets.
The best results as expected was when the mask was on the infected cage with only 15% getting infected. Next best was covering the healthy cage with 33% getting infected. Finally no mask showed 66% getting infected.
So this shows that masks absolutely do matter. So as we have been saying masks help the other person more than yourself. But we also found that wearing a mask unlike we have been told does protect you too. The infection rate dropped 50% even when the infected were not masked. So the mask is protecting you some regardless of if someone else is wearing one or not. They concluded masking at 80% adoption flattens the curve significantly more than a strict lockdown so this should be good evidence on getting back to work.
As for people telling you that masks are dangerous, that is very shaking information at best. If you have moderate to severe COPD and you are wearing an N95 mask then potentially you could be rebreathing carbon dioxide. It should be noted this is only in people with significant lung disease.
The above is from the Facebook page of Dr Louis P Coates.
In addition to people with significant lung disease I would add those who have psychological disorders that incline them, when wearing masks, to experience panic attacks. Panic attacks are severely debilitating.
People who have panic attacks hyperventilate.. they are usually told to breath into a paper bag.
It’s a “profile”, which has a small “bio” embedded in it.
How do you know it’s a leftwing rag?
Which of these should I consider and trust for some modicum of truth? Is there a list of liberal rags? How do you tell?
