This left the President with absolutely no reason to intervene. To paraphrase a previous statesman who confronted similar problems – downtown Seattle is not worth the bones of single National Guardsman.

So if you're a Conservative, a disable veteran, a business owner, or a Christian in Seattle, Boston, New York Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Michigan, or wherever else that liberal government is in charge, you have no rights. The Federal government won't help you when they come to burn, rape, loot, assault, and murder.

The political leadership of places such a Seattle do not understand the depth of the hole they have dug for themselves and their cities. What follows may not be as Dramatic as the collapse of Detroit but there is deep and permanent damage done to the commercial and residential culture of these towns. Anyone who lives inside Seattle needs to sell and move to say the NE side of King County where the BLM would not be comfortable.

I think that is a crucial point. Just because you live in, say Wisconsin, that doesn’t mean you cease to be an American citizen covered by the guarantee of rights in our Constitution.

I think Trump should at least have more forcefully urged these mayors and governors to protect their citizens, and actually I think he should even have federalized the National Guard in some cases. President Eisenhower sent in both the National Guard and the US military when desegregating the schools in Little Rock. - in other words, to provide protection to citizens that the governor and mayor were unwilling to provide. Faubus originally had the Guard supporting the segregationists until Eisenhower put them under Federal control.

I think the perception that Trump had lost control (or never had it) and that he didn’t care what happened to the innocent citizens of these cities cost him a lot of votes and confidence. He’s trying to get it back now, working with Barr to file lawsuits, apprehend criminals, etc. but the damage is done and many lives were ruined in those cities.

A lot of us have been or are currently in that situation. The great thing about America is: You’re free to move. Get out while the getting is good. Sorry to say, it’s not everybody’s responsibility to bail out those cities. I was born and raised in Detroit and married during the ‘67 riots. I left a short time later. The cities mentioned will turn into Detroit if they haven’t already. It hurt to leave my “hometown” but it had to be done.

IE had a federal court decree as a peg to hang the troop deployment on to skirt Posse Comatatus. Unless there is a direct federal matter and local authorities don't ask for the feds he has limited traction. There are plenty of permanent government types in the Army and sadly the Marines and in DOD to offer defiance without an explicit federal mandate.

Incidentally, this is why there was such a godawful row about G W Bush abandoning Louisiana after Katrina. For well over a week the state people in Baton Rouge resisted and stonewalled providing any information on the size and some projected cost of the LA NG employment and other responses. Gov Blanco, or more correctly her husband, referred to as ‘Coach’ as he had been a HS football coach, wanted the fed money spigot turned on without having any requirement to provide data on numbers and cost of personnel. This dance went on for better than a week and the LA people were generally uncooperative well after this. Combination of paranoia (common in the state political culture and stupid greed, also common) was at the bottom of all the hell the rats were raising about ‘abandoning New Orleans, etc. The state and local politicos also wanted a smokescreen they could flee under due to their own gross incompetence and in some , Aaron Broussard, the Jefferson Parish President per example, of just plain cowardice.
