SEATTLE - A new group of Black leaders at the Capital Hill Organized Protest said the collective protest will decide how long they will continue to occupy the area around Cal Anderson Park and the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct that has become the locus of the protest movement in the city.
“If the people of Seattle choose to hold the space at CHOP, Black Collective Voices will stay here,” said Naudia Miller, a leader of the new group.
Mayor Jenny Durkan, on Monday, said it was time for “people to go home,” urging protesters who have occupied the area for more than two weeks to begin clearing out, especially at night. She said that police would return to the shuttered East Precinct “peacefully and in the near future.” Her announcement came in the midst of a string of shootings in the area that left one teenager dead.
Miller on Thursday said the group is not limited to the CHOP area, but indicated little eagerness to comply with Durkan’s requests.
“Even if they force activists out of CHOP, it will not stop us or this movement,” she said. “We will not be bought off, we will not attend meetings where the goal is to buy us off, we are here to dismantle systemic racism.”

Reminds me of incident in my youth. At a “social club” like bar in Newark. Some drunk took my bar seat next to one of the wise guys. I got back and the bartender put his hands out and said: no trouble. He is leaving and does not know it. With that two goons showed up picked him up and 86ed him out the door. Those guys are all gone now but if they were in Seattle today and told to get them out I have no doubt it would be quick and painful. Recall the bar brawl in Bronx tale movie: now youse can’t leave.
The only ones to stand up to blacks in the Newark riots way back when were the Italians. Some of the first ones to protect statues this time were the Italians.

Guess this is one of the side effects of the war on men for the last 20 years.
In a semi-sane world, these two would be in jail. In a world run by democrats, these two are worshipped as gods.
Agree with the fire hose or maybe water cannons. This group is accomplishing nothing in their favor by continuing what they are doing. They have already angered most reasonable people & are only making it worse & not helping their cause by their actions.. Seems to me that at least some of them should be able to understand that.

Alas, therein lies the problem.
Water and electric utilities are city-owned and operated. They *could* be cut off at any time without impairing private contracts; continuing service means the city government is complicit.
