Harley-Davidson said this week it was done with a dealer in Tennessee over a racist social media post. In a now-familiar ritual, the dealer has denied writing the post, saying it got hacked. The dealer also owns a Honda store, and Honda said it was investigating. Harley decided this week it had seen enough.
The post in question was attributed to Russell Abernathy, the owner of the Honda and Harley stores, in addition to a Polaris store, all in Union City, Tennessee. It was flagged by a local activist group on Twitter and is almost cartoonishly racist:
Abernathy then put this statement on his dealership website, still there as of this writing. Never a great thing when you have to put a statement like this on the website of the business you own.

Was Abernathey hacked? He claims he was.
Or is he a complete tool?
Owning a Honda shop is enough to drop dude IMO.
Harley Davidson is not that far away from bankruptcy itself.
Woked progressives don’t ride hogs.
“Harley Davidson is not that far away from bankruptcy itself”
Yeah, I been hearing that for quit some time now...still waitin’. BTW Harley stock is up 4.36%
Wow. Drove from Florida, up to Union City, Tennessee, 5 times since 2000, to buy Hondas at Abernathys. Great price. No sales tax for out-of-state. I think they were at one time the largest Honda dealer in the US. A real busy place.
Not a good time to be in sales, where you can loose your business by not being politically correct. Correct speech never more important now that we have the WWW.
HOG stock is less than half the value it was 5 years ago and they cut their divided to near zero.
What else do you think is coming for this company?
Didn’t HD outsource their IT to India some years ago?
Oh I’m sure the battery powered bike they have plus overseas factory might help out.
I’ve bought two bikes from em in the past and plan on buying a 3rd. This BS has no bearing on my decision....the sales price does though.
Harley is betting their future on Electric Bikes. Wonder if it will work.?.?
HD has a factory in India.
Yeah. I see a huge demand for a $30,000 electric bike with a range of 150 miles.
YUUUUUUGE.
“Oh Im sure the battery powered bike they have plus overseas factory might help out.”
Screw corporate Harley Davidson. I feel they betrayed everything that made them so popular when in 2018 many dealerships proclaimed they would no longer service motorcycles that were built in 2003 and earlier.
I didn’t see anything Raciest in the guys post.
A person doesn’t have to be forced to like everyone in the world. Don’t tell me I have to like a certain demographic, or someone’s so called religion. I have as many rights as anyone else....including freedom from oppression.
There are various groups of people out there that don’t like me, and that’s their right. I don’t like them.
Harley Davidson along with the phony charade of companies are way out of line with this nonsense about punishing people for being honest. We all have reasons for doing what we do.
The owner should be glad to part ways and separate himself from these sanctimonious company(s) like HD.
I live in a free world and I don’t go looking for trouble, but I’m a person and I won’t be told ......”YOU HAVE to LIKE these people!”
Seems like some pearl clutchers work for Harley Davidson nowadays. Of course with the Nazis running around burning "Jewish" businesses, none of these companies want to be portrayed as "Jews."
They should have told that dealer to get rid of it. Keep any postings that might alienate customers off of it. Don't associate Harley in any way with politics, religion or social issues.
And that should have been the end of it.
Ah ha now I have you.. I predict the woke progressives you mentioned will be a large consumer of the battery powered Harley!
As I understand it Harley is heavily unionized...FWIW
Harley d’s WOKE CEO also complained about Trump’s “trade war” with China, so F them. Get woke, GO BROKE, with my blessing.
Quick send in 15 FBI agents and let’s get to the bottom of this. They should be b.c able to determine if he was hacked.
If he was it may just be a hate crime directed at him.
I'm trying to understand your angle here. Do you think some of this is motivated because he also owns a Honda dealership?
They should be focusing on their bottom line. Does this guy sell enough of our product, or can we get someone else to serve the area better?
That's the primary question Harley should be worrying about.
Also, do they have any sort of loyalty to the people who have been doing business with them for all these years? They throw him under the bus over a not particularly egregious rant?
