Does nurture or nature matter more when it comes to a cats personality? While many people claim that cat breeds differ in personality, there has been little research in the area. Salonen, Vapalahti, Tiira, Maki-Tanila, and Lohi (2019) thus set forth to examine the behaviors of different cat breeds as well as the heritability of their behaviors that is, the extent to which variation in behaviors are due to genetic variations in the population.
Salonen et al. (2019) surveyed Finnish cat owners on their cats behaviors, which included tendency to seek human contact," aggressiveness towards human family members, strangers, or other cats," and shyness towards strangers or novel stimuli." In total, 5,726 cats were studied. The researchers then separated these cats into 19 breeds. The researchers controlled for environmental factors including weaning age, access to outdoors, presence of other cats, and general characteristics (sex, age of cat) in their analyses. They identified the breeds corresponding with the 10 following behavioral traits:

I have an 11 year old meezer.
She has to know where we are at all times.
If one or more of us are missing she’ll sit in the hallway and yowl until someone shows up.
“”Cats have different personalities between breeds?””
Absolutely! Even within a breed they can be different. We have 4 tri-calico cats of some sort and no two are alike.
Mine is too and in the 4 or 5 years I've had her, she still won't let me pick her up........
She loves chasing the laser dot and sits on the kitchen floor in the morning staring at me and the laser until I get it out and let her chase it......
She'll occasionally get on my bed at night but only the far corner away from me.........Weird....
How can Persians be one of the most likely to have a behavioral problem when they are the least likely to actually DO anything. According to the other personality traits. My three were the most mellow cats I’ve ever had. And even as kittens. They were extremely boring as kittens. No drapery races, no knocking over the Christmas tree, they basically just sat around and purred. Same thing they’re doing now 15 years later.
We had to say goodbye to our beloved Ragdoll Stella last year. She was 16 1/2 years old. Indoor only kitty and we adored her. Love their chirps and trills and general sweet nature. Miss her SO much.
You didn’t mention white cats. My parents had a white cat that was possessed by satan.
I don't suppose you've seen this book about Ernie?
I havent known a lot of white cats. They tend to be sickly. Ill make a note of the Satan thing, though.
Havent seen Ernie. You are asking for trouble if you name your cat (or baby) Ernie. It is right there with Kevin, Nicky, and Simon.
It’s a wonderful book of photos of a gray tuxedo cat who apparently had a lot of personality.
Dogs.
Interestingly enough, cats prove that the world is NOT flat. If it was, the cats would have knocked everything over the edges by now.

Damn, ya beat me to it!

White cats (and dogs too,) carry a recessive gene that can cause deafness. That might be a part of it.
We had a sweet little (and I mean she was tiny) white cat, deaf as a post, and I think brain damaged as well. She's just sit in the corner, staring at the wall! Then go tearing around the house, only to go back to the corner, I think maybe putting herself into "time out!"
She was so cute though. Because she couldn't hear, sometimes she'd just mouth "meow," and other times should could have awoken the dead! And she'd come up to you, sitting right at your feet, making you think that she wanted something... Look into your eyes, and then forget what she was doing and begin sharpening her claws in your shins!

I have a feral tortie like that. I’ve picked her up twice when I had to trap her to take her to the vet. She does cuddle up with another cat on my bed at night, and i can hear her purr -——— but I sooooo want to hold and cuddle her!!!
Flat earths and cats —— LOLOLOL! So true!
When I first got Cootie, she was a few months old and I had to take her to the vet after about a week due to intestinal parasites. When I picked her up to put her in the carrying case, she went full bobcat on me. Scratches on my hands, arms and face. Even had to walk into the vet's office with a band aid on my nose.....They got a big kick out of that.
That was when he perceived a threat to his pet human or to the house.
Although the noise he could produce when he sensed coyote was truly savage.
