Mountain lion captured in downtown San Francisco suspected in deaths of 3 marsupials at zoo

A mountain lion cub that was seen roaming the streets of downtown San Francisco before being captured Thursday may have killed several marsupials at the city zoo, officials said.

The 50-pound male cougar, believed to be less than 2 years old, was examined at the Oakland Zoo before California Fish and Wildlife officials released it at a wilderness preserve.

But on Friday, the San Francisco Zoo revealed that three marsupials were found dead earlier in the week week at their outdoor enclosures.

In a statement to KTVU, the zoo said findings suggest the deaths of two wallaroos and a red kangaroo were due to a "local wild carnivore."

"With the unusual sighting and capture of a young mountain lion in San Francisco this week, the Zoo is investigating whether this could be the perpetrator," the zoo said.

Officials said after the incident that they "immediately" took steps to protect other animals.

The young cat roamed the streets of San Francisco for two days, appearing disoriented.

That guy was protecting his dog from being clawed up.
He’s very lucky the Roo was momentarily stunned and needed a moment to re-calibrate his next move.

.

2 years old is a bit more than ‘a cub’ -— Juvenile is more the usual term.

He was not beating up on anything. He was shooing away a gray roo who was about to eviscerate his dog. What was funny to me was these two squaring off as if they were following the Marquess of Queensberry’s rules.

Opossums? Quokkas? Wallabys? Koalas? Kangaroos? Tasmanian Devils? Thylacines? Bandicoots?

There are no genuine reporters anymore, just folks pumping their agenda.

That reminds me of the old John Wayne movie THE QUIET MAN.
Great stuff--Maureen O'Hara, Ward Bond, Barry Fitzgerald and Victor McLaglen.
My husband and I enjoyed that movie very much.

“Officials said after the incident that they “immediately” took steps to protect other animals.”

Steps involving crystals and incense, no doubt.

You have to see the video from the beginning. It starts with the Kangaroo deciding it didn’t like the guy’s Lab, and running up and grabbing it in a headlock while bent over, like a human would. The dog just smiled and wagged its tail, not really sure what was going on, but the kangaroo was hanging on and was going to fuck it up until the guy runs over and pries it off. The the Kangaroo then squares off with him, and he punches it before walking off, like he does it every day.

I don’t like violence on grasseaters, but it was kind of funny how the Roo was just being a dick, and trying to fight everyone like a human would, and the guy acted like it was totally normal and he had fights like that every day. Plus the Roo didn’t get hurt, so you can laugh.
