A woman and her husband in northeast Maryland found a live World War I bomb while digging in a flower bed.
After the startling discovery Wednesday, Kelly and Shannon Thomas, of Belair, left the round where they found it and called the Harford County Sheriffs Office.
After examining the device, it was determined that the best course of action was to conduct an emergency disposal to render the ordnance safe, the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal said Thursday in a news release. Bomb Technicians disposed of the potentially dangerous round on the scene.

Most of the Libs in Maryland are central. As you go East, west or north its predominantly Red
Nice to see lots of Freepers get it.
Bel Air...
How close to Aberdeen Proving Ground was it? Was APG (or any other base) open during WWI?
This makes no sense at all. First, who digs a hole straight down like that in a flower bed? Especially something that deep? Even if you are planting a tree, that not how you dig a hole for it. Second, how likely is it that the hole you dig is exactly centered over that round? How is it that it is laying perfectly on its side instead of at an angle? Why is it remarkably clean? Why no shovel marks? Why does the dirt look disturbed beneath it like the hole was dug first and the round place there?

It’s clay too so very hard to dig.
After WW1 a lot of left over ordinance was buried in rural areas. Spring Valley residents were surprised to find their upscale areas were loaded with this stuff.
