Ford Motor is resurrecting the Mustang Mach 1 as the new global pinnacle of 5.0-liter V8 models for the famed pony car.
The automaker digitally unveiled the limited-edition car Tuesday. It features greater performance than the current Mustang GT but is expected to be more attainable than Mustang Shelby GT models, which are track-focused variants with more powerful engines.
The 2021 Mustang Mach 1 follows other buzz or hype models such as the Bullitt, a model inspired by a Mustang in the 1968 movie by the same name starring Steve McQueen. Such vehicles arent bestsellers but are considered important to attract attention to entire brands and vehicle lineups.
With success of the other recent buzz models such as Bullitt, now is a great time to bring back the legendary Mach 1 name to the pony car lineup after a 17-year hiatus, Ford historian Ted Ryan said during a media briefing. This 2021 model lives up to the legacy, setting a new standard for 5.0-liter Mustang track performance.

The 2021 Mustang Mach 1 arriving next spring in the U.S. and Canada features a more aggressive design, including a freshened front end and grille, as well as performance parts from the Shelby GT models. The vehicles engine produces 480 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.
Its going to pull you from the seat of your pants, Jim Owens, head of Mustang marketing, said. He referred to the car as the pinnacle of 5.0-liter performance for Mustang.
The car will come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. A 10-speed automatic transmission also will be available.

Ford did not release pricing for the car, which will be sold in international markets unlike other special models such as the Bullitt.
Company executives declined to discuss sales expectations for the car. More than 300,000 Mustang Mach 1 models have been produced since its debut in 1969, according to Ford. The car was first discontinued after nine years. The model returned for the 2003 and 2004 Mustang models.
Ford also is using the Mach name for the Mustang Mach-E, an all-electric crossover thats expected to go on sale later this year.
I think you have not driven a new Mustang with the independent rear suspension........
I’d love one of these new Mach I’s - my first new car when I was 24 and poor was a Bullitt Mustang - incredible set of miracles put the car in my hands. Drove it in the ground, over 100k miles in 3 years - that’s all a car would go in those days. Passed it on to a friend as I did not have the money to fix any of its many problems. But boy did I love that car.
Movie came out 1 month after I got the car and Boom! I was famous......whereever I went.......
imho needs a 7.3L godzilla engine, tuned for speed, mid-engine chassis design, and a pdk shifter :)
Last Mustang I owned was a GT500. I have long got ridden of it. My days of fast cars are over since getting my 2016 AWD Regal GS, one comfortable a** car for my age.
*** “I miss the skill, control, and subtleties of my last car with it’s 5 spd stick” ***
I searched and shopped for a Manual Transmission, they were scarce ... I just like them... why drive if it isn’t fun?
This is beautiful! 70 Boss 302 Mach 1

Yeah I figured they’d go with the traditional sports car look of a clutch for the debut instead of the automatic. But that’s just me.
Nice car, never personally had much luck with Fords except for the ‘66 Mustang I had.
I’ve basically been a Ford guy since my teens, but I’ve owned most major brands, Chevy, Buick, Olds, Nissan, BMW, Dodge, KIA, Fiat...........The one thing they all have in common: They break down at some point...................
It needs a turbo diesel.................
> It needs a turbo diesel.................
Maybe, but then I would probably just forget to refill the DEF fluid someday, yikes...
With the first ever Dodge Charger equipped with five Hubcaps.
With the first ever Dodge Charger equipped with five Hubcaps. That's right up there with Doc Holiday's 3-shot double-barrel.
When I was a Kid my Older Brother took me to see Bullitt.
As we’re walking out my Brother is laughing and says, I wonder how they got that Hubcap back onto the Charger during the Chase?
I never noticed it, but my Brother always caught stuff like that. I was kind of bummed when he said that since I didn’t notice it. Took away some of the “fantasy” enjoyment of the Chase Scenes.
That and the explosion before the Charger hit anything. I assume that was a one time Take they couldn’t do over.
Still one of the better Chase Scenes, especially in the day of no CGI. The Seven Ups and The French Connection as well.
>>>That’s right up there with Doc Holiday’s 3-shot double-barrel<<<
They must have edited out the scene where he reloaded. LOL
I believe it’s the same take from a different camera angle.
Someone fell asleep in the editing booth.
Of course, Doc then unleashed his automatic revolvers on poor Ike Clanton.
