About 20 local community leaders and lawmakers stood in the hot sun in front of the site of the Republican National Convention’s final events and pleaded with the mayor to stop them in light of recent protests, the coronavirus and other issues.

Many on Friday were also concerned with the impact protests that normally come with presidential nominating conventions will have on communities near the arena. Activist Hope McMath said the city is “struggling” to handle the protests that are happening on a daily basis.
“To think that we will be ready in less than three months to handle that on a much greater scale than anything we have seen to date is naive at best,” she said. “It is also an issue of hypocrisy for a city whose mayor claims `One City, One Jacksonville.′ This flies in the face of that statement.”
In a statement in answer to questions about how the Sheriff’s Office will prepare for the convention, Sheriff Mike Williams said they have two “very clear priorities to deliver.”
“Ensure the event attendees are safe and ensure our community is safe,” his statement read. “I am confident that the men and women of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office are ready to meet the demands of such a large scale national event coming to our city. I look forward to working with so many state and federal partners for a successful and safe event for all.”

It will be a test of wills, and Trump's team, including the FL National Guard, will not be unprepared.
This will only increase the fervor for Trump voters to show up and vote in November.
I hope you’re right, but during football games, the local surrounding black neighborhoods are not against holding the games.
In this case, thousands of BLM/Antifa can infiltrate the neighborhoods inside the security cordon and use them as staging areas for protests meant to block the key highways and bridges.

Antifa and BLM will have a plan to disrupt the event and turn the focus on riots outside, when police move to clear protesters who are blocking highways and bridges.
That’s a great sentiment, but human geography says otherwise. There are poor black neighborhoods in several directions in walking distance of the arena, inside the surrounding highways. They can be used as springboards for BLM/Antifa actions.
The goal of BLM/Antifa will be to ruin the optics of the RNC, and turn it from a joyful party to a tear-gas and riot-police event.
But we’ll see. It will require an unbelievably huge police presence all over downtown to prevent marchers from blocking highways and bridges.
Then, on that point I agree with BLM and Antifa, police doing their jobs.
If the situation requires tear gas, batons and fire hoses, OK with me.
The rioters own Seattle, WA not Jacksonville, FL, and it's all because of leadership.

That’s why it is critical to have to many cops and National Guard Troops on the ground if that is even possible.
You have all the streets, bridges and exit ramps manned 24/7 by police or National Guard and get drones in the air to see where people might be gathering to march, get the ASAP and disrupt them if possible....don’t let masses of people get near downtown or arena area....
It’s not just Trump and RNC that is on the line, it’s also DeSantis the Governor who would not be Governor without Trump’s support if he wants to continue to rise in national politics he better be prepared...
