Aggressive Tactics by National Guard, Ordered to Appease Trump, Wounded the Military, Too
NYT ^ | 11June2020 | Thomas Gibbons-Neff, Eric Schmitt and Helene Cooper

WASHINGTON — A white National Guard commander called the standoff in Lafayette Square “the Alamo,” implying that the White House was under siege. Black members of the D.C. Guard objected to turning on their neighbors. Army leaders told pilots to “flood the box with everything we have” as two helicopters buzzed protesters in the streets.

The National Guard is now engaged in an investigation of the havoc a week ago Monday in downtown Washington, similar to after-the-fact examinations more common to battlefields in Iraq and Afghanistan. There will be questions, interviews and competing narratives.

Last time I checked it was a volunteer force. No one is forced to be there.

On a side note, I'm sure that there brothers, cousins, neighbors, BFFs just happened to be where they were. Sure. Pure luck. Can't imagine how that happened. What a coincidence.

Trump orders were very effective that explains the noise.

“Black members of the D.C. Guard objected to turning on their neighbors.”

So where are the courts martial?

BS.

The NYT is nothing more than a yellow rag which has lost all respect. (not that it has much with me to begin with - but it doesn’t even have the pretense now)

I believe the military does After Action Reviews (AARs) on Funeral Details, change of command ceremonies and just about everything.

An AAR for this is to be expected.

This is why you should not use local National Guard units for stuff like this.

They might wind up scuffling with neighbors or relatives.

Protect and defend against enemies, foreign and domestic. So says The Oath. If that means your neighbor, your pew-siytting neighbor, or the parents of your child’s sweetheart, or your family!!

Did you include 100% lies when you wrote this, or just enough to cancel out any non-lies?

Who would you propose to use?

In fact, I would think the fact that you could be scuffling with your neighbor or relatives is exactly the reason. I think it would be a great motivator for the two sides to communicate.

And, at the end of the day, they weren’t called out to get the peaceful ones off the streets. They were called out for the ones rioting.

I realize the article is coming from the NYT. Hell, Witch Pelosi even admitted that no tear gas or aggressive tactics were used to clear Lafayette Square.

And if the Guard person is more aligned with BLM/ANTIFA, tell them to stay home or get on the street in a black hoodie and bandana.

The really frustrating thing about the whole DC fight is that I have not seen any reports of anybody being actually hurt. Just a bunch of my white liberal friends complaining about getting smoke in their eyes, which they insist was “tear gas” while saying they were “lucky” they didn’t have a reaction to it.

And of course, outrage about being pushed a block away from the white house 30 minutes before the protests end, and outrage that after some of them threw bottles at the police who were “pushing them out before curfew”, that the police had the audacity to “tear gas” them (which was smoke grenades and some pepper balls).

I was in basic with a guy that said something similar. He chose Regular Army over the Guard because he didn’t want to have to beat up any of his friends. Having seen what is going on lately, he had a point. But then again, with masks on it might be hard to tell.

If it comes from the NYT it’s a lie, simple as that.

Asaaand...it was over in 3 days. Between 27 May and 30 May, “ whatever actions” Trump took calmed things down, Antifa disappeared from DC streets, organized looting and burning stopped, our national monuments were not defaced, the WH was not stormed, and the huge crowds.....became peaceful protests

( and boy are there some interesting reports)

One black guardsman could take a knee and the enemyTimes would make it very plural.

You use who you need to use.

I’m writing that if there’s a choice, don’t use locals.

For floods and forest fires, sure, use locals.

If there might be some scuffling, try not to use locals.

You conflate too many points to ponder. FIRST, stop the incursion, and the better means is not a local unit of the gurad.
