Contact tracing, Smartphones, Google and Apple...

Posted on 06/09/2020 11:17:40 AM PDT by dhs12345

Sounds like contact tracing is right around the corner and our Big Brother friends, Google and Apple, are planning help facilitate tracking our activities via our smartphones.

Just curious if anyone has considered dumping the smartphone for a simple flip phone. I presume that my position can still be traced via the triangulation cell tower network but that resolution is limited. However since the simple phones don't have a GPS chip and "smart" capabilities, detailed positioning and track is not as easily available to Big Brother.

That's true. However, how much resolution do they need if they know that you had visited a restaurant or a store, etc. where an infected person had been... and at the same time?

My last flip phone had GPS, and that was likely a decade ago. It was mandated for 911 support.

A lot. Depending on the restaurant, layout, staffing, etc. Which is the point of it. Maybe the sick person was in a different part of the building and shared nobody inbetween. Which means they don’t need to call you to tell you you may have been exposed. Which is the whole point of contact tracing and why it’s been around for a long time. It’s all about figuring out who might have been exposed and warning them so they can act accordingly. It ain’t new. All they’re really doing is finding better ways.

Yes. I know. And I told you that. If you’d paid attention.

They'll call everyone and force everyone into quarantine. Everyone in the restaurant. Everyone within two blocks. They don't care.Does it have to make logical sense? Heck no.

After all it is for the “safety of others” and society in general.

What information is it though? That I was within a few feet of another phone on such and such a date, time and place? I guess I don’t worry too much about the government or anyone else misusing that info, even if they could access it, which the app manufacturer says they can’t. They’ve already got a whole lot more info on me than that. If I were really worried about that, I would not even go online at all.

Well if you don’t want that, then download the app, then they can figure out whether you’re really at risk. And no they don’t actually go to that extreme, you’re continuing to make crap up as an excuse to be pointless paranoid over fiction.

No. Unless you’re admitting that you’re pointlessly paranoid over fiction, and your “solution” doesn’t actually solve anything.

This presumes that you have a choice. Or will be given a choice.

Heck, if they are going to make the covid immunization mandatory, then why not do the same with phones and force everyone to load it.

Better yet, have it embedded in the next OS release.

That’s how it is for now.

As the app is perfected it will be downloaded on all phones as an update to the software.

Yes, that’s the plan. But I get the impression that is well down the road.

Oh I made up my mind. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Do you know how they tracked OJ? I’ll give you a hint: GPS didn’t exist on phones then.

It’s called triangulation. Any communication device can be triangulated. ANY. Cellphone. Shortwave. CB. Ham. All “they” need is 3 antennae picking up your transmission with enough smarts to estimate your distance from the antenna. Take a map, draw 3 arcs, there you are. If you want to hide from the world, become Jeremiah Johnson. Anything short of that is just playing with yourself.

You DO have a choice. As I’ve already pointed out. Don’t wanna do it don’t download the app. It’s just that simple. And as an added “safety” don’t turn on bluetooth. Again, super simple.

BTW, some people never learn. I might have been part of that group, your group, just a few months ago.

Would I have believed 8 months ago, that the government would be able to force me into my home, force me to wear a mask, prevent me from working, prevent me from going to church, shutting down and bankrupting businesses in mass and forcing 30% of the working population into unemployment.

No, I would have been shocked that such a thing would be possible. Along comes a little virus, and “for our own safety and the safety of others,” our civil rights are suspended indefinitely and America as we knew it is gone. Gone forever?

Sorry if I am a little jaded. Based on what has already happened, it is reasonable to think that tracking a person without their knowledge will become accepted. Both by officials and by the general population. After all, it is for our own safety.

What have we learned?

That anything can and will happen and if there is a way, our betters will find a way to monitor our activities without our knowledge or approval. No app necessary!

Don’t need an app.

Agreed. I understand completely. I mentioned triangulation. And maybe it has gotten better.

However, GPS capability makes it easier. A lot easier. Instead of a rough position between cell towers, GPS will give your position down to 10 ft or less.
