The already delayed run of The Boston Marathon will not happen this year over coronavirus concerns, Mayor Martin Walsh and Boston Athletic Association officials said on Thursday.
The marathon, a huge and important annual event, had been postponed until Sept. 14 from its normal April run in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Walsh said officials have decided that running it in September is just not feasible to be done in a safe way.

Isn’t the kicker to all of this that you have to either Boston qualify in another race or enter through a charity sponsorship?
It’s not the same as a lot of virtual marathons out there which cater to the medal collectors; least the vast majority of those getting the medal for their virtual run HAVE run a marathon before.

They could station all the entrants on webcams who would jog on their treadmills for 26.5 miles.

Both groups shut down Boston and got the authorities to say “Shelter in place”. They put the city on lockdown while terrorists were running around free. A homeowner discovered them in his backyard.

Besides all that, it is impossible for runners in a marathon to “socially distance”, at least much of the time.
Or—for that matter—to wear masks!
It will be interesting to see how this “live-streamed” Marathon will play out!!!!
