America's empty highways have reignited the Cannonball Run Challenge, apparently. (Record broken 7 times in 5 weeks!)

That makes sense. Better roads and less traffic.

Too bad they didnt say what the record holding car was at the source - I was hoping they would say more.

There must be some real money behind this madness. Those Audi A8s do not come cheap. Neither does the air support.
And its just a matter of time before one of these idiots cause a wreck and injure or even kill someone.

“The Gumball Rally” was a much better movie on the same theme

But, J.J., I saved this woman’s ... dog!
That might have been from the second or third one. They run together.

Hmm, I wonder if there is a record for that? There is one for diesel, but I doubt it’s an 18 wheeler.

I remember one Cannonball race that was featured in Auto Week about 30 years ago. A team from the UK drove a Lotus and was stopped by the AZDPS in Williams AZ. They had a picture of the ticket they received. It was written by one of my high school classmates.

Back in the day, reading the actual accounts of the Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash was a dont miss annual event.

The original version please.
Take excessive speed and drive at excessive speed.

Around 50 years ago, 2 guys from Motor Trend, or some other magazine drove from Pacific to Atlantic in 54 hours.
They claimed to have abided by speed laws.
The car was a Renault. I can’t recall the model but my Brother had one. It was a 4 cylinder but water cooled. It had incredibly nice seats for a cheap car.
