CINCINNATI, Tuesday, May 22. The most destructive tornado every known visited this city yesterday afternoon between 3 and 4 o'clock. The storm came from the northwest, and appeared to be a cloud densely black, some two miles in breadth, rushing forward with fearful rapidily, accompanied with thunder and lightning, and torrents of rain.

The damage done in this city by the blowing down and unroofing of houses is immense, and will probably approximate $500,000. A large number of persons were injured, but as far as ascertained, but six persons were killed.

And $500,000 was a LOT of money back in 1860.

Did the Times blame 1)Climate Change, 2)Tax cuts or 3) Evil Republicans for the tornado?

I guess they weren't that bad back then...

I would like to add this class.

I have 4 of those papers including classifieds from 1861-1864.

I will post them when I get them pictured and uploaded.

Thanks

Let's see now...brush fires and earthquakes in California;tornadoes in the Midwest;hurricanes in the Southeast;or blizzards in the Northeast.

I think I'll settle for the blizzards.

The rest is gone but it sounds like the locomotive might not have faired well either.

Obviously this was caused by manmade global warming from all the careless people using firewood to stay warm.

The Northeast occasionally gets hurricanes such as the 1938 hurricane, which was probably a category 5, Hurricane Edna in 1954 and Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Yes,we do...but they're rare and are seldom as bad as the ones they get in the Caribbean,Florida,Louisiana, or the Carolinas
