I think Skidelsky is right, and governments across the Western world are engaged in an elaborate charade in which the real strategy they are pursuing–if there is one–is never truthfully disclosed. Governors in the U.S. say they are lifting restrictions when it is “safe” to do so. But how is it safe? The virus hasn’t gone away, and it isn’t going to go away.
I would only add that if Skidelsky wants to see a real “cloud of obfuscation,” he should come to Minnesota and listen to Governor Tim Walz blather incoherently through his frequent press conferences.

Here is a hint. One of the beauties of the human immune system is its use of a threat as a means to defeating that threat. You and your ilk only stand in the way of the beauty which is the immune system.
We are surrounded by Viruses, continually.
Many viruses have been eradicated from North America, because we refused to let them run their course. We went to war with them. Developed vaccines, tracked them down and quarantined them out of existence, eliminated their carriers.
The immune system might be a beautiful thing, but there is unacceptable collateral damage. Not getting viruses in the first place is even more beautiful.

We should figured all this out over the last 100 years with the countless flues since 1918. Furthermore, since so many flues are of Chinese origin, why do we continue to interact with the source?
Flu vaccines are a joke. We don’t know anyone who gets the flu shot and got the flu. It’s a feel good, cash cow tactic developed by the pharmaceutical industry.

Practically every supported it then. The goal wasn't to reduce the total number of infections. The goal was to spread it out (lower hill, longer tail) so a sudden crush of COVID cases wouldn't overwhelm the hospitals.
Now they've long since achieved those objectives. Many hospitals in fact prepared expensively and wastefully for a "crush" of coronavirus cases that never materialized, and now medical workers are being furloughed, small and regional hospitals are closing. Mayo Clinic just laid of 30,000. So the lockdown enhusiasts want to keep it going on and on til they haven't just flattened the curve, they've crushed the economy and flattened the country.
We lost the plot.
They've been "working on" a vaccine for 35 years for HIV, and --- zilch.
The annual flu vaccine is *annual* because it mutates so fast nothing will give lasting immunity. This year's guess-and-guess-again flu vaccine is, what? Barely 40% effective?
Let's go with HCQ-type prophylaxis for healthcare workers, isolation of the contagious, and sequestering the most vulnerable populations --- elderly, people with comorbidity and their housemates, people living in group homes --- and the rest of us carry on.
Because if the economy collapses, we've got nothing for nobody..
You can't shrink economies without devastating insurance and healthcare systems and wrecking medical financing. Without modern healthcare systems we're back in the wards with Florence Nightingale and her herbs, alcohol, chlorine and soap.
We never believed that the left would do anything possible to gain control and try to destroy the President even a WMD as this virus is.
