Admissions tests, allegedly biased against minority students, will be phased out over five years
The University of California board of regents voted Thursday to stop using the SAT and ACT college admissions exams, reshaping college admissions in one of the largest and most prestigious university systems in the country and dealing a significant blow to the multibillion-dollar college admission testing industry.
The unanimous 23-to-0 vote ratified a proposal put forward last month by UC President Janet Napolitano to phase out the exams over the next five years until the sprawling UC system can develop its own test.
The battle against standardized tests has raged for years because minority students score, on average, lower than their white classmates. Advocates argue that the exams are an unfair admission barrier to those students because they often cannot pay for pricey test preparation.
“The test is a proxy for privilege,” said Regent Cecilia Estolano. “It’s time, it has been studied to death.”

Reminds of my childhood when my sister, when losing a board game to me such as chess or checkers, would suddenly throw the pieces high into the air and storm out. The agony of defeat.
If they are “biased“ why not just throw them out now? Why weren’t these thrown out 40 years ago when he left started bitching about these?

A: Because they already know the answer.
The IQ ratings when allowed to be seen, usually also showed Asian, then White, and then Black. So the Left should harp on how Asians are racists instead of us. We’re just good old middle of the pack folks who don’t hurt anybody.
Since Math is inherently racist and Asians excel in it, they should be a target for that, too.

They’re going to make college like high school, where everything is dumbed down to the stupidest students.
I got accepted to UCSB only because I did well on the SAT—my h.s. grads were city college level. I remember that we had a special assembly and were told that 1 out of 3 of us would not make it to graduation. Anyway, in spite of all expectations, I graduated in 4 years.
No doubt the fact that blacks/latinos don’t fare well on it is due to racism. But why do filipinos so well? Wait, why aren’t they counted as ‘Asian’?
So if they’re not going to use SAT and ACT what’ll they use, PC?

“The test is a proxy for privilege,” No, the test is a proxy for IQ. Every trick in the book has been tried to help blacks amd hispanics score higher. Nothing works. So now they’re playing their trump card: throw out all tests and admit students based on the latest fashion. Not that it really matters, not now that young men are avoiding college in droves.
As George Carlin once said, American education has been dumbed down so much, pretty soon all you’ll need to get into college is a f...ing pencil.
