Delta said it also expects the MD-90 aircraft, which are made by Boeing Co. BA, +0.84%subsidiary McDonnell Douglas, to exit its fleet in June. Boeing's stock fell 2.3% ahead of the open. Delta expects to record impairment charges of $1.4 billion to $1.7 billion as a result of the aircraft retirements. Delta said the 777 fleet included 18 aircraft. Chief Executive Ed Bastian said the decision was made as international travel is expected to return slowly. "[P]arking this fleet will provide significant cost savings over the next several years," Chief Executive Ed Bastian wrote in a memo to employees.

Can trade it for a 36-double roll toilet paper package at this point
Sad. My wife and I flew to Europe on our honeymoon on a Delta Boeing 777 in 2001. We fly a lot but have flown on a 777 only one other time.
I worked on the engine (drafting). We were the best solid-modeling CAD house on the planet at the time, doing things that took us into art to part & cut design/detail from weeks to hrs. Heartbreaking...
The A380 assembly line has been eliminated. Several carriers have not renewed their leases because it cost so much per passenger mile. And their size limited the number of airports they could land and be serviced by.
To sell the 777 Boeing did something awesome. They set up a section of the cabin with a couple of rows each of the exact seating and space that competing aircraft had at the time so buyers could compare it to the 777. Was accurate but competitors called it the “dirty pool.”
I read a couple of years ago the there were plenty of used A-380s on the market. So many that they were competing with new aircraft sales.
They aren’t wanted. As I said, they are not cost efficient. Some are already being cannibalized.
And with that capacity you can't have many backup aircraft.
Dealing with 500 passengers at a shot stresses all their systems.
My new motto is If I need a mask, I aint going
== = = = = = = = =
OR
If it is required, YOU supply it.
Of course, that won’t happen because if one gets sick wearing ‘your’ mask, ‘you’ will be sued.....
Saw an IDIOT in store the other day with an ‘ill fitting’ mask on and she was coughing and hacking...nothing like trapping your snot and spittle in your face BUT it is better than ‘spreading’ it...
IF in that condition, STAY HOME. Really isn’t all that hard to figure out.
Being a ‘Neanderthal’, I just assume one is wearing a mask because they are ‘SICK’ and think they are protecting me or a Doctor or Nurse who DON’T wear after they finish working on a patient..
Ill meet you at a Dunkin of your choosing and give you a $100 if masks are still prevalent by Labor Day.
= = = = = = = = = =
Sounds like a ‘safe’ bet as if we are still playing at this foolishness by Labor Day, DD probably out of business because the ‘coppers’(saw an old Bogie movie) will be quelling riots or staying indoors.
I would have thought that their 777 fleet would be newer than their 757 and 767’s.
Turns out, Delta's not ready when you are. ;^)
Delta definitely was not ready to refund my money after they canceled my flight back in mid April.
Still waiting...complained to DOT and Better Business Bureau...
I remember when they were a great airline...but then again I am an old timer...
When it is time to fly next time..I am driving...
Mabey in Mass. In Ohio I see 20-30% with masks on and I don’t think that will last when it warms up more.
I don't go anywhere, haven't been on a plane since before 9/11, probably will never fly again unless its aboard a private jet.
I know a 777 pilot who flies for Delta. He’s ex-military and a Patriot. I wonder what he’ll say about this.
