Little Richard, a founding father of rock and roll whose fervent shrieks, flamboyant garb, and joyful, gender-bending persona embodied the spirit and sound of that new art form, died Saturday. He was 87. The musicians son, Danny Penniman, confirmed the pioneers death to Rolling Stone, but said the cause of death was unknown.
Starting with Tutti Frutti in 1956, Little Richard cut a series of unstoppable hits Long Tall Sally and Rip It Up that same year, Lucille in 1957, and Good Golly Miss Molly in 1958 driven by his simple, pumping piano, gospel-influenced vocal exclamations and sexually charged (often gibberish) lyrics. I heard Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, and that was it, Elton John told Rolling Stone in 1973. I didnt ever want to be anything else. Im more of a Little Richard stylist than a Jerry Lee Lewis, I think. Jerry Lee is a very intricate piano player and very skillful, but Little Richard is more of a pounder.

ut then the hits stopped, by his own choice. After what he interpreted as signs a plane engine that seemed to be on fire and a dream about the end of the world and his own damnation Little Richard gave up music in 1957 and began attending the Alabama Bible school Oakwood College, where he was eventually ordained a minister. When he finally cut another album, in 1959, the result was a gospel set called God Is Real.

Well, that bad boy is in Heaven now.
Grace greater than all my sin.
87... not a bad run... still, sad to see him go.
RIP.
a wop bob alu bob a wop bam boom
RIP Little Richard. You weren’t so little, after all.
How long before this gets put into the virus death numbers. If he was thinking about it, it makes it virus related death.
Sad to see him expire.
Legend.
RIP.
Oh man. The world just got less interesting.
His songs, though wild and loud, definitely had a pretty cool beat. He was a really talented guy. Also queer as a three-dollar bill. But he got saved and in the end, that’s all that really matters.
One of a kind. An original and pioneer. RIP
“...Sad to see him expire...”
Yeah, he was a character for sure. Always had a smile on his face.
Hell of a piano player too. He could tickle the Ivories for sure.
A wop bop a loo bop a wop bam boom.
Litle Richard was one of a kind. RIP.
A unusually long and productive musical life, one of the all-time greats. If I ever get to play live again (no thanks to politicians) I’ll sing Lucille to honor his creativity.
I wonder if Prince ever said he emulated him on purpose.
Grace greater than all my sin.
Great quote. I always say, Chief of sinners tho I be. Same idea.
Save by Grace Alone! Amen.
Every nail hammered into Christ, the Author of Life, represents my sins.
Vice? well satan puts that around your neck/throat, a sin you cannot give up. It is like a vice around your neck. Jesus breaks all chains and locks!
How do you stop sinning? Well you cannot do that! But
you can PRAY TO WANT TO STOP A SIN! And be careful.
Pray this prayer sincerely, and it works every time. To quit gambling, smoking, drugs, crimes, etc.
WHAT? Read your bible!
He’s SURELY in HELL!
REPENT is a word he NEVER learned!
” the original lyrics of “Tutti Frutti” were about another gay man: “Tutti Frutti, good booty / If it don’t fit, don’t force it / You can grease it, make it easy.”)”
Such a pious man/women/tranny/pervert. Yeah, God welcomed him into heaven /s

Wow. Guess you don’t understand that Jesus justifies the ungodly (Romans 4:5) and died for sinners (Romans 5:8; 1 Tim 1:15).
Don’t you know your Bible or the One who wrote it?
Little Richard in the same league as Chuck Berry, Fats Domino. All gifted American Music artists. Just remember folks...all of us are flawed one way or the other...but that does not stop greatness. Luved ‘em all!!!
My introduction to Rock’n’Roll, was by way of Paul McCartney & The Beatles in 1964. Love their cover of “Long Tall Sally”!
