As nearly half of U.S. states begin to ease restrictions that were put in place to slow the spread of the coronavirus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is quietly projecting a stark rise in the number of new cases of the virus and deaths from it over the next month.
Modeling from the CDC, incorporated into a chart prepared by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and circulated within the administration, was obtained by the New York Times. It projects 200,000 new daily cases of the coronavirus by the end of May and 3,000 daily deaths in the U.S. At present, approximately 25,000 new cases are reported each day, with roughly 1,750 deaths.
Without disputing the accuracy of the modeling used by the CDC, the White House quickly distanced itself from the projections.
“This data is not reflective of any of the modeling done by the task force or data that the task force has analyzed,” White House deputy press secretary Judd Deere said in a Monday statement. “The president’s phased guidelines to open up America again are a scientific-driven approach that the top health and infectious disease experts in the federal government agreed with.”

I’ve been seeing this headline for the past few days. I hope that people have been slapped out of their obtundation to not fall for a second shutdown. It will be hard enough to crawl out of this economic quicksand that we are already in.

They are talking about 84,000 deaths a month. If that were going to happen it would have already. These people are fear mongers, nothing less and they want this country shut down.

Well, they are certainly no place like home!! I thought is was beyond coinky dinky that the center in Washington (close to Bill Gates) was the same chain that had an outbreak a few weeks later in Missouri.
84,000 deaths in a month, eh? And will they cut that figure in half a couple weeks later, like they did when 60,000 deaths recently became 29,000 deaths, literally overnight?

It forecasts a range... of anywhere from 750 to 7500!
And look at what a big gap that is. The mean or average means nothing in such a case.

CDC? PFFFT! CDC sucks. They have no credibility. They need to STFU and keep their heads down and be grateful to get paid until Trump has time to deal with them.

Actually, there will probably be increases in both cases and fatalities since we are re-opening and mixing together again...how many? Depends on many variables...it Comes down to a roll of the dice and modeling is only as good as the info put in...there is risk associated with everything we do every day...we have to weigh whether the risk is worth the gain. To some, it won’t be...they should stay home. To others, it’s a risk worth taking to get on with our lives.
