Corona Virus Daily Thread #50 COVID-19 5/04/2020
Cute!
Thanks for that!
All my southern family members (Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma, N.Carolina, and Virginia) are masked up
and extremely cautious.
More so than what I have seen of New Yorkers, Philly people, and Jerseyites.
We are heading to 4K dead a day. Americans have decided to accept that. For some reason they think it wont happen to them or people they love but it will.
Sad days are ahead. The best I can do is wear a mask, gloves and keep my distance. The rest is in Gods hands.
I lost two close relatives to Covid last week.
You can bet I am taking all precautions very seriously.
This evening, I heard of a 35 year old niece in Connecticut who is very ill with the virus.
She is a healthy outdoor enthusiast and an engineer. Working from home. Doesn’t know how she contracted it.
Waited five hours in a long, long line to get tested. Sent home to quarantine. Says she feels like “there is an elephant on my chest.”
Please, everyone, pray for her.
Prayers up.
WOW....maybe you have a genetic quirk in your family that makes you susceptible..like the IFITM3 quirk
Searching around to see if vasodepressor syncope was going to mess me up and i found this about various disorders that could have a problem
https://www.dysautonomiainternational.org/page.php?ID=227
btw, she should start taking those things Docs are taking (with consent and medical advise of her Dr)
like quercetin, zinc, melatonin
you can see Dr Louis Coates on facebook or Medcram Dr for things they recommend. I think dr coates puts it in every post.
If you look at the medcram diagram about how this might be killing your body.....NAC might help as well.
Thank you good sir.
May God guide and strengthen us.
Tatt
if you have any asian ancestry you might very well have IFITM3 issues
but it is not exclusive to asian ancestry
I’d bet the more fanatical they are towards others that are wearing masks, the more fearful they really are and are misdirecting that fear into anger. Caught in the headlights of flight or fight but the enemy is invisible.
Kind of like China at the moment.
wait. Who’s lying? The Guardian or the Aussie Telegraph?
"The French government has been notably restrained in their criticism of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for unleashing a pandemic upon the world. One possible reason for their reticence is a single, highly embarrassing fact: They essentially built the Wuhan Institute of Virologys P4 lab in which the coronavirus now sweeping the world was being researched, and from which it escaped. That the French delivered the turn-key, high-containment biolab to China has long been public knowledge, but now a German newspaper, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, has added riveting details to the story. The insider information comes from interviews with French scientists directly involved with the effort.
The picture they paint of the labs origins and operations is, to say the least, disturbing. It tells us a lot about why we are currently in the midst of a pandemic.
The French government agreed to construct the state-of-the-art lab on condition that scientists from the two countries would collaborate on joint research projects there. The French were to have a significant presence. According to the terms of the agreement, no fewer than 50 French researchers were to have taken up residence in the apartment building attached to the lab, where they would work on a daily basis. The construction of the Wuhan lab was completed by February 2017. This was such an important moment in the history of Sino-French relations that the French premier, Bernard Cazeneuve, personally traveled to Wuhan for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
To the surprise and consternation of the French, that ceremony marked the effective end of the research partnership that the opening of the lab was supposed to inaugurate. Now that China had the P4 lab and technology it wanted, it promptly stiffed its foreign partner and tore up the agreement it had signed.
Not a single French researcher was allowed to take up residence in the compound and do research at the lab.
...
In other words, from the beginning the Wuhan P4 lab failed to meet international standards. What this means, according to Izambard, is that the Wuhan labs handling of highly-contagious material was never adequately ensured.Given what a disaster for the French the P4 lab in Wuhan has become, it is worth asking why they embarked upon it in the first place. Like so many other failed public and private ventures in China, it was an effort to increase trade with the Communist giant. Add to this the fact that France already had close commercial ties with Wuhan, as more than 100 French companies were doing business there.
The stage was set for the P4 lab fiasco back in 2003 during the SARS-epidemic, when Chinese leader Jiang Zemin approached Jacque Chirac for help in building high-containment biolabs. In response, the French president authorized the export of four medium-containment mobile biolabs, or P3-labs. He did this against the advice of his own Defense Ministry, which argued that all existing P3-labs in China were under the direct command and control of the Peoples Liberation Army and were being used for military purposes.
The French Presidents authorization of the construction of a P4 biolab in Wuhan met even fiercer opposition, this time not only from his own Defense Ministry and the French intelligence service, the DGSE, but also from other member states of the European Union and from the United States. The U.S. had consistently opposed helping China create a P4 lab, and transferring the sensitive technology required to operate it, because of the risk that the facility could be used for military purposes..."
The Guardian, the Telegraph AND ME.
Here’s news from Texas:
Reopened restaurant told workers: Don’t wear face masks or don’t work

In Iowa, many government and businesses ‘strongly recommend’ wearing PPE and social distancing.
I’d guess the violent response against someone wearing PPE is like the flubro attacks that we used to see on these threads (and have fortunately gone away for the most part).
On FR, the result is hurt feelings and time-outs. In a grocery store or Walmart, someone can get hurt. The old lady can end up in the hospital, or the ant-mask fanatic will end up attacking someone with a CCW permit.
I agree. Like China, they are seeing their entire world view crumble in front of them and they can’t cope. They are inflexible and incapable of change.
When I do my grocery store or hardware store run, I’ve made it a point to shop where the majority of employees and customers wear masks. Have to stay away from the crazies (who, currently, are more likely to be those not wearing PPE and/or practicing social distancing).
I used to listen to Limbaugh and Hannity while driving, but since the Wu-flu, classic country, oldies, or even NPR are more likely to keep me out of the ditch or the oncoming traffic.
That’s the problem with the country right now. Everything is political. Anything the Democrats are for, they are reflexively against (and vice versa).
If Biden or whoever the Dems replace him with win in the fall, it won’t be because the Dem candidate is better. It will be because a large number of Trump supporters/conservatives will be CCP virus statistics. I’m hoping that the virus doesn’t mutate into something worse (as in the 1918 Flu Pandemic) and/or effective treatment is found. But I’m prepping for the worst case scenario.
58 percent of workers at Tyson meat factory in Iowa test positive for coronavirus
An Iowa Public Health Department report showed that more than 700 workers contracted the virus at a meat plant in Perry.
>FYI, Perry is about 20 minutes or so from Des Moines (largest city/business hub in Iowa).
(Masks) Why do so many Americans seem to have an issue with them?
Emory University Global Health and Law Professor Polly Price says the situation in America now mirrors what happened during the 1918 Spanish flu outbreak.
At the time, the US Surgeon General advised everyone to make and wear their own mask - just as instructions are now on the Centers for Disease Control’s website, guides were sent to newspapers.
“It was up to state and local governments whether they were going to require their populations to do it - not all did,” she says.
Some cities levied fines for people not wearing them.
“There were very few court challenges, but they generally upheld the authority of local governments to have face mask ordinances,” Prof Price says.
“We do have a long tradition of individual rights, so even during the Spanish flu people would sue about the schools [being] closed. Or restaurants and bars were closed and people would sue about that and they routinely lost.”
In the same way that protesters have argued the lockdowns infringe their rights, much of the anti-mask rhetoric seems to come from the same well - American resistance to government mandates.
