Sorry all, but I’m afraid that the “Calvin the Deplorable” cartoons make me REALLY sad.
I’m a huge fan of Bill Watterson and his “Calvin and Hobbes” cartoon strips. I owned all the softcover books, which were donated to a local library when I moved, and I’ve since bought the hard-cover entire series. I absolutely LOVE C&H, and was heartbroken when Bill announced he was done.
Bill Watterson has refused to license the images of Calvin & Hobbes to any company, even though he could have made A TON of money. Any time you see images of Calvin and Hobbes outside of his strips, it’s been pirated, and whoever it is that put it out is in effect, stealing from him, and using his beloved characters for another’s purposes.
Bill has stayed completely out of the spotlight since C&H ended, and it’s really unfair to him to use these images.
The “purity” of Calvin and Hobbes was based on the viewpoint of an innocent (ok, maybe not quite so innocent) child and his pet tiger. There was only 1 strip I recall that was slightly critical of adults, but it was completely non-political.
I wish the person who does these, Dixon Diaz, would stop doing them, out of a sense of decency.
I’m sure there are other who disagree with me, but this is how I feel, when it comes to intellectual property, and a comic strip and its innocence is being violated.
Mark
Thanks (took the top one), Bon mots!
