The Air Force confirms to WWL-TV that a part of one of the B-52s participating in the America Strong flyover today fell off the Stratofortress while over New Orleans, crashing to the ground.
No one was hurt, and the air-worthiness of the plane was not affected as it flew on to do its Baton Rouge flyover, and then returned to base.
The Air Force says the part, an access hatch, landed on private property.

Was Slim Pickens riding it?
Some screws might’ve come loose ..
Buffy’s getting a bit long in the tooth... but she’s a tough old girl...
Its now in an antique shop in the Quarter.
Parts would fall off of you if you were that old in airplane years ,LOL
Somebody’s got some ‘splainin’ to do!
I had a complete window blow out of a P-Baron. It landed in a rollercoaster ride car in South Carolina. Not uncommon. A million pounds of parts bolted together flying around over any state at any given time.
So very true! :-)
meh
Off the north end of the runways at Nellis AFB is a dry lake bed
Need some sheet metal? - stuff’s been falling off aircraft there since the 1940s....
Must be one of those Boeing Airplanes, because that’s the sound it makes when a piece falls off...”Boeing!!!!!!!!”
>>Parts would fall off of you if you were that old in airplane years ,LOL<<
The B52 started in 1952 (reason for the name?).
Parts start to fall off when you are that old in HUMAN years.
Finders keepers.
Aw, man. I’d be all “whoa! Free hatch!” but the Air Force wants it back even if you call Dibs.
It sure would be nice for people to learn that holding your phone camera sideways results in much nicer videos. I’m a certified Old Guy and I learned that a long time ago.
So let’ build 1000 more.
That plane may be older than the pilot’s grandparents.
What’s up, my brother?
All well by you?

I’m glad they explained it fell to the ground. It’s also a very good thing they didn’t make that part from Flubber.
