America's meat crisis laid bare as shelves sit empty across the country after processing plants were forced to shut due to coronavirus with 900 workers testing positive at a single facility

America's mounting meat crisis has been laid bare in pictures showing empty store shelves across the country after processing plants were forced to slow production or close amid outbreaks of coronavirus. Two dozen meat processing plants across America have been forced to close at some point in the last two months while many others have been forced to slow output after workers got sick, according to union bosses. Shortages of poultry, beef and pork have continued despite stores limiting how many products each person can buy in order to prevent hoarding which has exacerbated the problem. The crisis is also set to get worse despite Donald Trump using the Defense Production Act to force plants to stay open and will not peak until the end of this month, unions have warned, with shortages likely to continue even for months after that.

I remember .... Wisconsin dairy farmers pouring mass quantities of just obtained milk into the streets because of the undesired price per gallon.
There was no shortage, no virus, just a low commodity price.

Just returned from Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club. While shelves aren’t as full as they were pre-Covid, there was still plenty of meat to be had.

"Hubby brings home several hundred pounds of venison each year and we’ve kept it several years"

same here....

I've grown to not like venison too much...

I reminded my husband the other day that he still had a bunch of venison hamburger from 2014 in one of our freezers....

but we wrap it properly and it surprisingly does not get freezer burn....

We like it because it’s ‘free’. Hubby hunts, kills, cleans and butchers the venison. I get the venison in ziploc bags.

What we don’t eat we cook and mix with dog food. Stretches the $$$ we spend on dog food too.

There are a bajillion instant pot recipes for venison so we don’t get in a rut.

Solution to the problem.

Go to Arby’s. They have the meats.

If the stores are short on meat, go look at local meat markets. Most people don’t think of that option.
