Corona Virus Daily Thread #49 COVID-19 4/30/2020
When I go to quick service food vendors (generally twice a day), I put alcohol-based disinfectant on my hands before I go in and after I come out, and minimize touching services directly by using a napkin. I have even mastered the art of using the McDonalds touch screen through a napkin (took some practice). Other than that, don’t do much other than taking about 100 natural anti-virals (exaggeration).
Nice!
You did a really great job. I like the bright red/white contrast.
We need to both rechicken and rebuild the coop. maybe this fall.
I’m looking for chicken palace plans on pinterest :)
We will probably shoot for a cpl dozen hens and roos until they’re old enough to eat.
Breathing, talking and especially singing. The early research on this has been validated by other studies.
The white is actually beige and it is gorgeous. The people we bought our house from years ago already had the barn painted those colors, so we bought matching paint for the coop. The addition will likely be beige too.
Very nice.
Lucky chickens!
I dispute that sufficient amounts of virus are transmitted by normal breathing, with ordinary social spacing (not even social distancing). Practically everyone would already be infected if that were the case. This would be a very strong form of airborne transmission, like anthrax, which it isn’t. (anthrax is not actually communicated from one person to another but is spread readily through the air).
Btw, Im too old for this. And I said that to myself a hundred times this week lol!
I’ve worked in factories. Some teamwork is required here and there, but most people don’t need to be closer to other people than six feet. Most of them only need to be close to the parts coming in and going out. Conveyors, overhead hoists and cranes, forklifts and trucks have been around for a long time. Most factories should have high volume ventilation. Meat plants need air circulation with filters or other air cleaners. UV lights overnight wouldn’t hurt.
lol
I’m still figuring out an angle on kite-surfing without going to a (closed) beach
Ok, well, you may want to take a look at this. There are more studies like this. You can do what you want, but these are the kinds of studies that make many of us take the precautions we do, and why my husband is finding creative ways to keep his employees safe (distancing)

another reason to spend more time down at the barn :)
I need to find the energy to replant a lot of stuff. I’ve been busy mulching garden. I’m too old for that too I think LOL.
Wow!! I LOVE your coop addition and entire set up. Thank you for posting pics.
I’m envious!
Your hard work sure has paid off....the chicks and hens will love it!
Nice color scheme, too.
How old are the older ladies? How long will they lay eggs?
Your coop looks amazing! I wish I could keep chickens.
Mystery Remains As NJ Nursing Home Coronavirus Deaths Keep Rising:
NEW JERSEY They just don’t add up.
This is what state officials say they’re continuing to hear about the rising and, in at least some cases, alarming number of cases and fatalities at New Jersey’s nursing homes and long-term care facilities amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis (see list of nursing homes, case totals and fatalities below).
The state has lost at least 17 percent of the people in those facilities who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 which is about quadruple the statewide percentage of total fatalities.
But a big part of the problem is that, health officials acknowledge, the numbers are probably higher maybe even way higher. Families and loved ones are now demanding that state officials and the facilities themselves need to be more upfront about the level of contamination in nursing homes, veterans homes and other long-term care facilities.

LilFarmer’s chickens are at a day spa....EVERY day!
So very sad.
I wonder if there is a state by state comparison on these nursing home deaths.
