There is no evidence that people who contracted COVID-19 and recovered are immune to a second infection, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
On todays Daily Dose, Dr. Michael Wilkes, a professor of medicine and global health at UC Davis, says the announcement could be a game changer during the pandemic.
Before the WHO announcement, many health care workers were operating under the assumption that once someone became infected, they developed antibodies that would protect them in the future, Wilkes says.
However, WHO didnt explicitly say these antibodies dont exist, Wilkes points out.
How California has fared
A new study of 1300 adult COVID-19 patients in Northern California has also provided more insights to the virus. Its highlights:
The most common illness patients had before COVID-19 was hypertension, with 44% of testing positive for the condition. Its one of the most common underlying symptoms of other illnesses, Willkes says.
About 30% had diabetes during admission to the hospital.
Sixty percent of patients had abnormal chest x-rays.
Of the patients who required hospitalization, 70% were treated in the general or immediate care ward, while 30% were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
For those in the ICU, more than 29% required a ventilator, and half died.
Of those admitted, patients across all age groups required care, and the percentages of young and middle adults were similar to those over 60, Wilkes points out.
He says theres still a perception that COVID-19 is a disease for older people, and the Northern California study helps disprove it. It is a disease that affects people of all ages. Proportionately, perhaps [it skews] more elderly. But it is something that we all have to be concerned about.
Implications
Wilkes says that people need to be cautious, especially since there is no proof of immunity to COVID-19.
No scientifically-approved COVID-19 medicines exist, including the hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine treatments previously promoted by President Trump.
The FDA issued a safety warning against the use of both drugs on Friday, stating they could cause serious heart rhythm problems.
Since President Trumps announcement in March about the anti-malarial drugs, 40,000 doctors prescribed the drug. None had ever prescribed it before.
Wilkes warns that as the pandemic continues, people will make judgements and actions out of fear, and it will be important to stay informed and admit when something is unknown.
We just need to be very careful that we get the evidence and let everybody know when there is evidence that something works or doesn't work, he says. But also, be honest when there is no evidence, like is the case with immunity, we just don't know where we stand on that.
WHO...China,?
The answer to the question in the title is unknown, but if you get Covid-19 and do not recover, you won’t get it a second time.
Might be like Dengue. Get it, recover, get it again, die.
Jury is still out on catching it again. I’ve read about groups of Chinese patients who recovered from Covid-19, only to continue testing as ‘positive’ after their apparent recovery. Maybe that’s a lie, since it was from China, but it’s not hard to believe. There may be at least 30 mutations of this virus now known to exist.
It may end up as with TB. Some people have been exposed to the ailment, but have no symptoms, and will test as ‘positive’ for TB for the rest of their lives.
Yes, just because people develop antibodies to pretty much every other similar illness doesn’t mean that they will to this one... There is no evidence other than people who have had it and gotten over it typically not getting sick from it again. This is such a great article to try and keep the panic going until the next election when it will magically disappear forever.
Most people say you can’t get it for another 18 months and won’t get a serious case after that for 10 years. But the reality is that tests are bad. So there maybe cases where people did not fully shed the virus and others who have false positives after they no longer are infectious or symptomatic just remnants of the disease.
Typically if you really clear a virus, you have immunity and unless the virus has mutated significantly, a host does not become re infected. However some viruses such as HIV and Hepatitis C despite some immune response never totally clear, become part of the host’s genome and have continual symptomatic and asymptomatic pathological consequences. It is unknown just how this COVID-19 virus behaves.
If one can get sick again after recovering how can we expect a vaccine to work?
More scare tactics to give Rat governors more ammo to keep the people locked up.

Good question!!
Bullshit. Calm down. It’s not a death sentence
“Since President Trumps announcement in March about the anti-malarial drugs, 40,000 doctors prescribed the drug. None had ever prescribed it before.”
Really? The checked with 40,000 doctors and were able to confirm that NONE had EVER prescribed the drug before? Wow, they REALLY do some in depth research before they publish! I’m very impressed. /end sarc/
“There is no evidence that people who contracted COVID-19 and recovered are immune to a second infection, according to the World Health Organization (WHO)”
no evidence that they’re NOT immune either ... btw, if antibodies don’t make one immune for this disease, then it’s impossible to make a vaccine and everyone in the world will keep getting sick over and over again form C-19 until everyone is dead ... i suppose that’s the level of fear that the fake stream enemedia is aiming for ...
The projected survival rate over the coming waves is 20% over 3-4 years. The immune response to the virus if it doesnt kill you first, over time is expected to continue to attack and weaken the system over time, opening up other oprtunistic infections.
If you have antibodies it would literally completely upend all we know about immunology if you got the same disease again. I think this is more misinformation from WHO
PROJECTED!
I’m sure by EXPERTS doing STUDIES.
Do not believe the WHO
Bookmark this for when they again change the science
People either get the disease twice, or the virus reemerges from where it lingers undetectable in the body
Lots of reports from China
My Grandmother had Tuberculosis in the early 1930’s. She went to a sanatorium. They told her she was over it. About 5 years after being released from the sanatorium she got tuberculosis again in 1940, so she had to go back to a sanatorium. Stayed about 8 months. She never got it again and lived to be 93 years old. She died in 1997. She had it twice though. I wonder if this virus is similar to that?
Or... people in China used Korean tests early which provided false positives nd then caught the disease for real later... or they used a cdc distributed test kit that came contaminated with covid:
