I think herd immunity wont happen until 2021.

It's quite possible that by 2021, those infected in early 2020 will no longer have immunity. While we are hoping for the best, it seems unlikely CV19 confers permanent immunity. The question is how long will immunity last? 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, 2 years? Still, even if 25%-50% of the population at any one time is immune, that slows down the spread and helps reduce the load on our hospitals until (if) a vaccine is developed.

I agree. We would never *really* shut down because our govt won’t use draconian measures. It was more of a slow down. I have been pleased that our local mom and pops have been doing more business than the big stores... people looking for less crowds

FOX just said no presser. So maybe not?

If Lil Kim is room temp, that situation may be monopolizing the President’s attention.

How is a suburb in Nashville returning to semi-normal life “against (his) personal interest”. Because misery loves company? Areas that CAN get back to work doing so is in every Americans best interest. Flattening the curve doesn’t mean complete shutdown, and each state and county should be able to manage their own situations. We need to learn as we go, like how to protect healthcare, eldercare, manufacturing, food processing and supply chains, etc, but we need to get as many folks as we can back to work/life.

Here’s GA..and we are opening Monday (with a lot of restrictions). We have almost 400 cases in my county now

My husband talked to a lot of people this week, the majority will not be opening or will be sticking with drive thru/curbside only. The state will allow restaurants to open dining rooms Monday but the distancing rules are almost impossible. Most people he talked to feel better staying with the status quo. His business has been about 75% right now, so that’s not too bad. His employees are wearing face shields in addition to masks now.

Almost a third of U.S. pork capacity is down, the first big poultry plants closed on Friday and experts are warning that domestic shortages are just weeks away. Brazil, the world’s No. 1 shipper of chicken and beef, saw its first major closure with the halt of a poultry plant owned by JBS SA, the world’s biggest meat company. Key operations are also down in Canada, the latest being a British Columbia poultry plant.

While hundreds of plants in the Americas are still running, the staggering acceleration for supply disruptions is now raising questions over global shortfalls. Taken together, the U.S., Brazil and Canada account for about 65% of world meat trade.

“It’s absolutely unprecedented,” said Brett Stuart, president of Denver-based consulting firm Global AgriTrends. “It’s a lose-lose situation where we have producers at the risk of losing everything and consumers at the risk of paying higher prices. Restaurants in a week could be out of fresh ground beef.”

Our veterans and elderly deserve better than this :-(

‘It’s a sinking ship’: COVID-19 deaths triple at state-run vets nursing home as families clamor for information
PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF MILITARY AND VETERANS AFFAIRS
By WILLIAM BENDER | The Philadelphia Inquirer | Published: April 25, 2020

CHESTER COUNTY, Pa. (Tribune News Service) — They’re dying.

Almost every day over the last two weeks, military veterans and their spouses have been dying at a top-rated, state-run nursing home in Chester County ravaged by the coronavirus.

One, two, four a day.

The death toll nearly tripled over a five-day period at the sprawling, 283-bed Southeastern Veterans’ Center complex in a wooded stretch of East Vincent Township, near the Schuylkill. As of Friday, 26 residents who had tested positive for COVID-19 or were presumed to be infected have died, according to the Chester County coroner.

“They’re sitting ducks, the veterans,” said Nadine Bean, daughter-in-law of a 95-year old World War II veteran who lives there.

Bean, a clinical social worker, said families as a whole have been happy with their loved ones’ care, and the staff amenities at the five-star nursing home, which has a waiting list and is run by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. But as the state agency scrambles to contain the coronavirus, the nursing home has concealed the true scope of the deaths and outbreak from vet center families.

Nearly 150 total coronavirus cases confirmed on cruise ship in Japan

Posted on April 25, 2020By Kate Kelland and Raphael Satter

TOKYO (Reuters) – Nearly 150 cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed among crew members of an Italian cruise ship docked in Japan after health authorities finished testing everyone on board, an official said on Saturday.

The Nagasaki prefecture official said 57 more crew had tested positive, bringing the total infections on board the Costa Atlantica to 148, roughly one quarter of the vessel’s 623 crew members.

Authorities began testing after one crew member tested positive for the virus earlier this week. No passengers are on board the vessel, which has been docked in Nagasaki in southwestern Japan since February for repairs and maintenance after the pandemic prevented scheduled repairs in China.
