Second article on using an aptamer to beat viruses, including covid.
Very intriguing.
Was developed for cancer treatment.
“ They say while a “controlled adaptation” strategy could see widespread easing of restrictions by mid-May, delaying until June and eliminating virus transmission on a state-by-state basis would minimise risks, ultimately allow for stronger relaxation and generate a sense of safety and confidence among the Australian public...”

PANTYHOSE - not just for hunters
Upgrade your homemade coronavirus face mask by adding this basic clothing item
Researchers at Northeastern University in Boston determined that wearing pantyhose over a mask could help to filter out more airborne particles when compared to wearing a mask alone...
... homemade fabric masks, when worn with pantyhose, performance increased between 15 and 50 percent, the researchers found. When worn alone, these masks blocked 30 percent or less of particles.

President Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order to ensure meat processing plants stay open during the coronavirus pandemic.
The order invoked the Defense Production Act, deeming the facilities a part of the countrys critical infrastructure as concerns mounted that the U.S. food supply chain will be disrupted because of the contagion. The federal government also is supplying additional personal protective gear to plant employees.

China lashes out at US, claims country is ‘lying through their teeth’ on coronavirus; threatens Australia
China’s foreign ministry on Tuesday accused the United States of “lying through their teeth” and suggested the country mind its own business as the war of words between the world’s two biggest economic powers escalated.
“We advise American politicians to reflect on their own problems and try their best to control the [coronavirus] epidemic as soon as possible instead of continuing to play tricks to deflect blame,” spokesman Geng Shuang said.
Australia has also been on the receiving end of Beijing’s spiral. China’s ambassador to Australia warned on Monday that the government’s call for an independent international inquiry into the origins of the pandemic could lead to a Chinese boycott of Australian products.
Australian’s foreign minister Marise Payne hit back, dismissing China’s attempt at “economic coercion.”

This was despite a big increase in production and imports, he said.
Mr Putin warned that the peak of the coronavirus infection rate had not yet been reached in the country, and the population must remain vigilant.
Russia’s lockdown aimed at containing the spread of Covid-19 was extended until 11 May.
It has more than 93,000 coronavirus cases, with 867 recorded deaths.

Coronavirus Pandemic Update 62: Treatment with Famotidine (Pepcid)?
Interesting preliminary data and 3-D analysis of the common heartburn medication famotidine (Pepcid) shows a possible coronavirus treatment benefit and is being utilized in a clinical trial. Dr. Seheult illustrates a process of how this medication and others may work for COVID-19 treatment and continues his discussion of oxidative stress.

Coronavirus Pandemic Update 61: Blood Clots & Strokes in COVID-19; ACE-2 Receptor; Oxidative Stress
Thrombosis (blood clots), strokes, and myocardial infarctions are mysterious complications for some patients with COVID-19. Dr. Seheult discusses a recent case study involving a 72-year-old with elevated d-dimer and plasma Von Willebrand factor, and goes on to illustrate a hypothesis for how downregulation of ACE-2 may result in oxidative stress. This process may put patients with underlying elevated levels of oxidative stress (cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, etc.) at the greatest risk for severe COVID-19 infection.

GERMANY:
Germans urged to stay at home amid fears Covid-19 infection rate is rising again
Germans have been advised to stay at home as much as possible and continue to apply physical distancing as official data appeared to indicate the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic was once again accelerating...
...Lothar Wieler, the RKIs president, later specified that the reproduction rate for Monday was 0.96, and therefore technically still below one....
...For its own estimate of the reproduction number, the RKI attempts to take into account the time lag by ignoring data from the last three days and back-dating known cases to their likely day of infection around a week earlier.
The reproduction number announced on Tuesday can therefore only give an indication of the pandemics development at a point about a week and a half ago, when a relaxation of social distancing measures had been announced by Angela Merkel but not yet come into effect.

SPAIN - envirowackos upset
Spanish official apologises for spraying beach with bleach
An official in southern Spain has apologised for spraying the local beach with diluted bleach in an attempt to protect residents from Covid-19.
The picturesque fishing village of Zahara de los Atunes sent tractors equipped with sprayers along part of its beach last week as officials readied for the release of the countrys children after six weeks of confinement.
“With humans barred from the beach for the past six weeks, she had hoped the number of nests in the area would double this year. Now Im worried that the tractors crushed the eggs, she said.”
I think the Enviros are mostly upset humans will be using the beaches again. Chlorine only lasts about 2 hours in sunlight. Probably a lot less if it’s sprayed thinly.
