Lawmakers expected to discuss limiting governor's powers in special session (Whitmer in Michigan)

LANSING, MI (WILX) -- Governor Gretchen Whitmer is going to release her plan to gradually reopen the state Friday.

But first the State Senate will be voting to take away some of her powers.

The Senate will vote on four proposals from Republican Tom Barrett of Potterville.

He said current law gives the governor too much power during a state of emergency, and it's time for the legislature to take some of it back.

Barrett's proposal would repeal a 1945 law Governor Gretchen Whitmer plans to use to extend her "stay home" executive order.

Violating an executive order would become a civil infraction instead of a misdemeanor.

The proposal also limits a state of emergency declaration by the governor from 28-days to 14-days.

And it prevents the governor from banning the sale of guns or ammunition during an emergency.

Democrats said now is not the time to have this conversation.

From what I gather, Whitler may have broken the law by giving a no-bid contract to her RAT pal. That would've allowed her to get her paws on everyone's medical records. Lock her up.

These emergency powers should be limited in time, like the War Powers Act.

Give a governor 15 days before they must seek legislative approval for an extension or not.

So the legislature that exempted itself from handling FOIA requests during the WuFlu crisis is going to ride herd on #HeilHalfWit, who’s doing the same...?

From three weeks ago...

Saginaw attorney sues Gov. Whitmer over FOIA executive order

Michigan should not get one damn dime of federal taxpayers' money if it refuses to be transparent about what it's doing with the cash.

Just like here in Pa. the legislature can pass all kinds of bills to limit the Governor’s power. However, it’s a waste of time because the Governor will veto any legislation that will limit their power.

I just heard on a local radio station in Michigan that she will be extending the lock down until May 15, and will veto any legislation brought forth to limit her power.

What a shock.....not. I did not vote for her, I think she is a not too bright puppet. I just hope those who did vote for her are noticing.

Oh, but she may relax some of the restrictions, like maybe we can buy paint or something. And she probably expects our gratitude.

Change "may have" to "did." Caught a blurb on Tucker Carldon last night. The amount paid to that Democrat group was just under what would have triggered scrutiny by some bipartisan board. She pretended not to know anything. _itch.

New Orders, if they pass

In Michigan the final plant date is June 5 for corn and June 15 for soybeans

YOU ARE PUSHING PLANTING DATE, on top of Dairy, eggs, chicken, pork shortages. Baby formula & diapers rationed. BETTER POTTY TRAIN or find a source of at least 50 cloth diapers. Oh, be prepared to puree baby food from adult food. IF you can find it.
