This nation was totally shut down for ONE reason. That is what we were told at the time. That reason was to "flatten the curve", meaning to enable time for our medical capabilities to catch up with the need for treatment. There is ample evidence that even in our worst hit area of New York City that this in fact has been accomplished. The USS Comfort, provided as an overflow hospital option to the city in the heat of the battle, has been sent packing and according to New York is no longer needed.
Across the country, hospitals have plenty of ventilators available and beds to treat those who are infected. We also have found the drugs that provide treatment for the infected to the degree that most who catch the virus will be cured in less than a week.
The goal originally presented to this nation has been accomplished. Now they want to shift the goal post by using the issue of "testing" to keep this nation shackled. Baloney. Set us free Mr Trump. If not, you will lose many of us for continuing this unnecessary charade at our nation's expense.
That this virus was politicized by the left does not mean that THEY get to control it's response forever. Trump was backed into a corner with this and has played along but now he needs to do the right thing for the people of this nation. End the shutdown. There has been enough carnage. He has a limited window of opportunity to do so himself and be given the credit for doing so before the masses themselves simply disregard their government, including him, in ALL facets.
Trump and his buddies held a press briefing that they called "15 days to slow the spread" in which they encouraged state governors to enact whatever lock downs they deemed fit for their individual states. Are you saying this had absolutely no effect on how the states handled this virus? Why have a press briefing if they didn't feel it would be followed or listened to? They set the tone. In addition, the tone was further set before this briefing when the NCAA, NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, PGA and a host of other sports leagues allowed President Trump to brag about their efforts to confront the virus. The individual state governors weren't the ones touting this news to the nation. It was President Trump. In a Presidential election year, who do YOU think the media will hang this shutdown on? Brush up on your concept of politics before you next vanitize.
The President ain't holding us hostage - big difference between, "Here's how I think you should handle it" and "This is how it's gonna be"...
Was that an actual American Greatness article, Joe? Can you link it?
“Trump, as President, can greatly influence public perception towards demanding an end to any unnecessary shut downs.”
The important words here are “influence public perception.” Trump’s claim to have total authority over the shutdown is only partial.
He can apply pressure based upon his duties within the interstate and international commerce, but the actual order to pull back is within the hands of the governors of each state.
States rights as they are not trying to withdraw from the union where he can come in with national guard troops and reclaim, cannot be violated. (And if they are fired upon, they lose their citizenship status and he can bring in federal troops) So the states are not within Trump’s control for this unless the things happen.
I couldn’t find anything that said Trump took responsibility for the shutdowns. Could you please tell me where you found that? The different state shutdowns, as they are different in length and scope individually, have been a warm kudo for the state reps as an “I am here to protect you” thing is what I found. Everything from the overprotective Washington and California to the late and under protective New York are probably each end of the scale. Thanks.

The Whitehouse “15 days to slow the spread” recomendations gave governors across the nation a green light to shut down their states as each saw fit. It was meant to “flatten the curve” and they recommended extensions beyond Easter if you recall. Now they want us shut down indefinitely for “testing” purposes. Yes the governors have authority over their states but with the White house blowing the shut down horn every afternoon it makes it very difficult to buck the feds, especially when governors are thrown under the bus by their president on national television. This is not America. This is China or the Soviet Union in it’s hey day. It needs to end.
“It needs to end.”
Yes it does. But Trump can’t do it as he is not in conrol of the states, and never has been. He gave them the green light because he never had control of the red one or the green one. He can make recommendations, but he can’t enforce them and never tried.
A good article for this is:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/15-days-slow-spread/
The term recommendations was used a few times, but ordering was never used except to free up $42 billion in funds as that was the way to do it. He never ordered the shutdown of a state and by giving that “green light” said he would do what he could to support the governors in whatever action they took. And they did not do it the same way at the same time. If the president had done it, if he legally could, it would have happened simultaneously and been consistent, It wasn’t. He didn’t order it. The individual governors did. He did what he was legally bound to do.

sorry duplicate, Facemask is on too tight for my brain.
He is legally a President. He has no legal standing as a doctor. He is the one with his daily show trumpeting the shut-down twins, scarf lady and shorty pants. They want to move the goal post beyond that which was originally given to this nation as the reason for all of this crap. He is allowing them their effort and thus is helping them impede the attempts to return to normalcy. He, as President, doesn't need to lean on these two to influence what the governors can or can't do. They are not credible and every second his afternoon shit show features them it diminishes HIS credibility as well. He is legally bound as President to look out for the welfare of the nation as a whole, not just some particular healthcare aspect of it. He is not doing this in my opinion and the sooner he starts by getting past the scarf lady and shorty pants the better off we will all be. He needs to declare victory over the flattened curve and allow this country to deal with the consequences.
When you are typing your reply and want to italicize the quote your are replying to, put a open pointed bracket symbol (<)followed by the letter i then put a closed pointed bracket symbol (>)behind it , then place a quotation symbol in front of the text string you wish to reply to. Follow the text string with another quotation symbol, then another pointed open bracket symbol (<), then a forward slash symbol (/), then another i, then another closed pointed bracket symbol (>).
To place a space in between this and the beginning of your reply, place a open pointed bracket symbol (<) followed by the letter p then a closed pointed bracket symbol (>).
Do this every time you want to form a space between paragraphs. The symbols are HTML code to display the text you are typing and will not show up when you preview or post your reply.
Thank you. Doesn’t happen often, but it can be a real PITA when it does, to read.
