Theodora Aidoo is a young woman who is passionate about women-related issues. Her Love: To bring to fore the activities of women making a global impact. This stems from her journalism background from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism and Ghana Institute of Journalism.
Reports say that was the first time in the countrys history that a 68-year-old primigravida (pregnant for the first time) has given birth to twins following an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
The Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, took to Twitter to announce the news.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday, Wasiu Adeyemo, Chairman, LUTH Medical Advisory Committee said that the woman delivered a boy and a girl on April 14 through an elective Caesarean section, at 37 weeks gestation.
According to him, the IVF and embryo transfer were done at a facility outside LUTH, but the woman was, thereafter, referred to LUTH at early gestation and was subsequently managed till she delivered.
This is the first in LUTH, Nigeria and Africa, he said, adding that both the mother and the babies were in good conditions.

Must have been an interesting baby shower.
I was under the impression that IVF was extremely expensive, and even most in the U.S. couldn't afford it.
So, they can watch the kids’ high school graduation from their wheelchairs?
I was wondering who knocked her up. Turned out to be a silly question.
It is. And since its Nigeria Im sure theyll be asking us to share their wealth
The doctor who did this should be liable for child support. As, the odds are against the parents being able to support the kids until maturity.
Sad, but true.
There IS money in Nigeria as there IS money in every third world sewer. Unfortunately, third world sewers are run by a few VERY wealthy families who owe all the banks (money), land, politicians and the police.
The poor have to just take it. THEY have no choice.
Selfish woman.
I wonder if her husband is the genetic father.
I’m not sure if he exactly looks happy.
There must be some reason why a woman her age decided she had to gestate babies to whom she has no genetic connection. Of course, the article gives no clue.
Best wishes to all of them.
I was wondering if they had other children.
Remember the Romanian woman who was the first widely-known post-menopausal woman to gestate an IVF baby? She was stark raving bonkers after multiple abortions during her normal reproductive years and basically treated the process as therapy.
One never sees any follow-up on these situations.
Wow. Scary. I don’t remember that. Where is that kid today?
What you say about Nigeria is true, but my comment is aimed at the irresponsibility of doctors who help people who are aging have kids they are likely to old to raise. I had similar feelings about the Octo-mom, although there the issue wasn’t age. The issue is that I think it wrong for doctors to try to set a record which will likely cause a public charge soon afterwards.
And both of them are princes that need your help with a fortune they cant get out of the country without your help.
I was wondering who knocked her up. Turned out to be a silly question.
Viagra has caused more incidents of granny abuse than any other cause.
How utterly irresponsible
