Just took delivery of half a hog from a local ranch. 63 pounds of pork in the freezer. There are sources other than the chicoms.
This.
As an added bonus, how many residential and commercial properties would then come onto the market as the price of them comes down. I know rich people and those who own homes hate this, but tough teaties. The price of housing and land is way out of proportion to what it should be. If we are going to “reset” the normal, lets do it in a manner where working class can own their own homes.
It used to be that 2 years of an average mans wages could buy a modest home. A return to that would be a bonus, as well as spread out the population away from the insanity of cities.
In 1975 I worked in drywall, and made $16K a year. I could buy a house for $25-35K. It wasn’t a new house, or a perfect house, but it was easily done if you had credit and saved.
We either get back to some semblance of that or we are finished as a nation.
Obama, of course...
Ha.;..better Defense Production Act Conan

Farm-to-table!!
Also, where possible, start victory gardens and raise chickens.

Forechaigners in charge of our food supply? Smart. What else? Arabs in charge of our oil industry?
When a company is nationalized that means it becomes government property and is run by government employees who have no business sense or profit motive.
Maybe what the poster was thinking is that trump could use the Defense Production Act to keep these businesses running.
I have no problem with that.
What I do have a problem with is with the government actually taking over a business like meat packing. That is Socialism. That is not something I would think should be promoted on this forum.
How did the execs get around the travel ban?
Private aircraft?
Did they go to Canada & cross the border?

Pig farmers in the USA should sue Smithfield and its CCP managers by name.”
This would seem to be more an issue of working conditions tjan ownership structure. Several non-Chinese owned meat processors are closing their plants as well.
New Trump EO:
In view of the national emergency, and in consideration of those incarcerated , hencforth meals will be upgraded to pristine pork from our Smithfield facility nation wide....doses of anti Chicom Virus pills will also be made available,
Unc, Trump banned flights by domestic carriers. Foreign carriers have continued to bring them in all along.

The article I saw gave no indication that the execs actually came from China. For all we know, they may have come from corporate headquarters in Virginia. But thay doesn’t make as good a headline.
I had one of my cows processed last month as 90/10 + the straps.
that’s what I was thinking. how about we let market drive demand instead of federal subsidies that bottom out prices. it will be painful to start but will be better in the long run for the security of our nation
Yep.
Of course China will take 10x that back from our companies’ investments over there, but that was probably the end game anyway.
Take them over using the DPA
Then after crisis, exert eminent domain
Perhaps compensation could be offered
The total of US debt to China
