The number of black bears has QUADRUPLED at Yosemite since the park closed due to coronavirus as the beasts migrate there while visitors stay away
'The National Park Service (NPS) is working with the federal, state, and local authorities to closely monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.'
Ranger Katie, a biologist who's worked with black bears for over a decade, said in a Facebook live stream video that the animals are now having a 'party' since humans have been barred from visiting.
There can be literally walls of cars, stop-and-go traffic or people in the park,' she said.
'So, for the bears, they normally have pick through these little corridors that they have to move through in the valley to get from Point A to Point B. ... Now, that there are no people the bears are literally just walking down the road to get to where they need to go, which is kind of cool to see.'
The park shared a video on Twitter showing a black bear running through a meadow in the park.

The number in my back yard has more than tripled and I live in n Florida! I can’t even put trash in a can until I see the Trash truck coming down the street.
Soon, calls to keep National Parks closed indefinitely. For the public’s safety, and all...
Don’t the Chinese pay top dollar for the gall bladders of black bears? That plus ginseng root kept a lot of East Tennesseans fed in the 90s
Is it racist to call them beasts. Quadrupled accurate if they're visiting from outside the park I suppose.
How do Black Bears do with the Burmese Pythons?
Are they fleeing because of the snakes?
Yep the Ursus americanus floridanus are roaming around. Stay safe
They’re planning something.
There have been a lot of comments about the weird culinary habits of the Chinese. However, I think we should look to some of our own odder tastes before criticizing others. For example there are frog legs, snails, aka escargot, rattle snakes in Texas, and crayfish, aka mud bugs, the only one of which I haven't tried and enjoyed being rattle snake.
Instead, it is just thrown away.
If someone dares to try to harvest it and sell it, it is a federal felony.
No people means no picnic baskets, Yogi.
That is weird. I guess that once it’s in the cooler, they can’t tell if it was a licensed harvest, or a poacher, so they outlaw both, but there should be a way.
If they’re worth $30,000 dollars in China, and 3,500 bears are harvested annually in Virginia alone, that’s a street value of over $100 million.
Obviously that would flood the market. No one needs that much, but still...
My cousin, who lives in Winter Park, said the same thing last night when I talked to her. Bears have broken through her fence four times recently.
Game populations were very low.
Protection was needed.
Now, when that ham-handed approach is stupid, in many ways, it is kept as a rice-bowl by federal agencies, and by anti-hunters who just want to make hunting go away.
Is that law why it’s impossible, or nearly so, to buy venison at a store?
Increase in bear skin rugs to ensue.
My lovely wife walked out to the car the other night and turned around to walk back inside and there was a bear between her and the door. She got in the car until the bear left.
The ban on selling bear bladders is so that black bears don’t get wiped out. We don’t want to have the population depleted for such a thing.
There is no reason to believe a ban is the only way to regulate the bear population.
We are at the point of not having sufficient hunters.
We can, for example, tag the gall bladder the same as the bear is tagged.
You could even charge a minor "export fee" to keep track.
That would give some money to the bureaucrats to keep them supportive.
