Some guy did a year-by-year study on this. Ill put the link in post #1.
He found out that:
1952 - 13 percent of the time was spent watching commercials
2018 - 32 percent of the time was spent watching commercials
How about its more than just annoying? Its blatant propaganda.
When the Baby Boomers were growing up, a half-hour show was actually 22 minutes long. That’s about 27% commercials, although it didn’t always seem like that much because some of the commercials were commercials for other shows.
“On cable, commercials are even more frequent, totalling 15 minutes and 38 seconds of each hour.”
When they first started marketing cable TV, I seem to remember commercial-free television was one of the selling points.
The main reasons I stopped watching TV and movies was the actors in real life were anti-American and, two, they were jamming so much liberal b#llsh@t into the stories. Now, every commercial has a multi-racial couple and multi-racial kids or a gay couple. Or, they disrespect whites or men. I don’t give a blank about whether someone is married to someone of the same sex or a different race. What I don’t like is having it continually shoved down my throat when it has no place in the story. So, I read instead of watch. It’s much more satisfying.
Wasn’t cable TV (also known as “pay TV”) supposed to be commercial-free?
it’s not just the ads - the content sucks.
Everything new, especially in the last several years is woke nonsense. Both movies and TV.
I spent most of my time watching MeTV and today it was Bar Rescue because I can only take so much “I’m ghey, oh that’s so awessummm!” shows and that and the “ooo, Trump supporters iz bad” make up 99% of all plot lines anymore.
EVEN THE COMMERCIALS!
DVR. Westerns. Old movies. Can’t stand the virus news anymore unless there’s a call to arms.
“Your favorite shows are getting crammed with more and more commercials.”
Two words for you: Kay Bell
I use TiVo torecord nearly everything I watch on cable because of TiVo’s skip feature for many channels.
I also spend more time using the streaming services than watching cable/network TV. Some of free-with-ads streaming services, however, are increasing their ad content and ad insertions.
24/7 covid commercials
It’s not only TV, but radio too. I’ve gotten to the point of turning off the radio.... sick of so many dumb ads. Same ones day after day. On top of that, the radio hosts often do extra ads as well. It needs to be cut back.
Everything about current media is pushing a hard core leftist agenda.
It is nothing more or less than Pavlovian conditioning (brainwashing), and for a large segment of the population, it works.
Got free of the idiot box at least a decade ago.
When I realized that there were only one or two programs a week I could abide it was time to unplug.
Every “Comedy” had the same plot, guys are fat and stupid, the wives are slim and sooo much smarter.
Every plot line had to have a percentage of fags and “Minorities”, even if that would have been impossible for the time and place of the story line.
Decided I do not want to be Re-Educated into the desired level of stupid sheep minded PC.
No longer even own a TV and now resent all time previously wasted with them.
the longer the commercial break, the more likely the viewer will FF ahead. Many have DVRs now so either record your programs so you can skip ahead or pause live programming to build a buffer so you can skip commercials.
A get annoyed enough without watching TV, ergo, I do watch nor own one. Now what about the annoyances on FR?
My TV died 6 months ago. I haven’t replaced it, nor will I.
I did manage to save around $60 per month by cancelling my cable TV with Comcast (Xfinity).
I haven’t missed TV at all. As long as I have my laptop and my Internet connection, the world is my oyster now.
Even when my only TV was NFL years ago, I would DVR and skipp all commercials. Dish network used to have a really neat button that would skip forward in 15 second steps, just right to get past the commercials without overshoot.
No TV at all now, so do not care what they have on.
