Sisters die 102 years apart from two separate global pandemics

A pair of sisters have died from two separate global pandemics, over a century apart, according to a report on Friday.
Selma Esther Ryan died Tuesday from the coronavirus at an assisted living facility in Austin, Tx., three days after celebrating her 96th birthday. Her death comes after her older sister, Esther — who she never met — died at the age of five during the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic.

I know we are just starting. Our first case was last week, we now have 5 and likely will have more.

RUSSIA is in trouble

In Pandemic, a Remote Russian Region Orders a Lockdown — on Information

MOSCOW — Nearly as big as California but served by only a handful of mostly decrepit Soviet-era hospitals, the remote northern Russian region of Komi is a coronavirus petri dish for the horrors lying in wait for the world’s largest country.
... faced with a pandemic that does not respond to the Kremlin’s go-to tools of propaganda and repression, Mr. Putin has mostly delegated handling of the coronavirus to these same regional leaders. In doing so, the Kremlin has only empowered instincts, deeply entrenched in many local governments, to try to cover up bad news.

Mr. Putin, in an address to the nation to mark Orthodox Easter on Sunday, assured Russians, “The situation is under total control.”

Shortly after he spoke from his country retreat, however, the health authorities reported more than 6,000 new infections across Russia, by far the biggest one-day rise yet, bringing the total to nearly 43,000. More worrying, more than two-thirds of these new cases were outside Moscow, which had previously accounted for the bulk of new infections.”

we really weren’t ‘eat in restaurant’ people anyways. And haven’t been to a movie since 09ish. We might get a drive thru or sonic type thing though. We’ll see how OUR money goes. And how china shipping high tech stuff goes in the next 2 months.
*******************************************************************************
Same here. Although we usually take our daughter out to eat on her birthday in March and we didn’t do that. Drive through - Hubby takes the grand daughter to that pretty often after school, so we didn’t have that expense. We stocked a bunch of meat and stuff to fill up the freezer.

Schwans is our biggest splurge-but that’s just 2 or 3 items twice a month. We still don’t have any lettuce—I’ve got 2 heads of romaine-so I hope our lettuce is ready to eat a few leaves soon. Guess I could get some dandelions to eat-we always let them propagate as an emergency source of food. LOL

We have quite a bit of canned chicken, pork, beef, and ham. Most of it I bought on sale and canned myself, but the ham is dak ham.

we’ll get a good preview of what will happen in Africa when we see how fast the virus spreads thru the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Central/South America is going down hard already.

Same in my rural county.
I expected the urban areas to be way down by now. But by successfully ‘flattening the curve’ they’re now coming down very slowly.
So... 3 more weeks maybe before I’ll feel reasonably safe.

I posted a canned pork recipe a few pages back. We’re going to try that one. After we can some broth. That way if we manage to break a bunch of jars we haven’t wasted any real food.

If the canned pork works out, we’ll can some venison and chicken next.

I’m a pressure canner fraidy cat though.

It may be a while before I have my hair done again. I’ll have to take down all the mirrors in the house. Just have to wait and see what happens over the next 3 or 4 weeks numberswise.

Hoping against hope that summer heat and D3 levels will nip this in the bud.

Those places are dangerous to work in, even without covid.

I have a friend whose husband was hit by a side of beef swinging around on a hook.

He was knocked unconscious, but his hard hat saved him from serious injury.

Mexico marks deadliest day amid coronavirus lockdown

Mexico has recorded its deadliest day this year, official data showed Monday, with 105 murders the previous day amid the government-imposed quarantine to combat the spread of COVID-19.

...Sunday’s toll exceeded the latest high of 104 people on April 4, 2020, federal data showed...

...Since the health protection measures took effect in mid-March, violence certainly has not slowed in Mexico, which in 2019 recorded 34,608 murders, a record number since 1997.
The 2019 toll is the equivalent to an average of almost 95 intentional homicides per day in Mexico —

I am surprised the Hamptons are not ravaged yet, with all these overprivileged morons waking around so blithely.

And don’t anyone tell me they are limiting their booze and cocaine parties to fewer than five people.

I usually do my own hair anyway. Mom was a beautician, so I have almost always done my own-other than when she couldn’t stand it any longer.

When I was in my twenties, I bleached and toned it in addition to cutting it every month. Now I just do it every 3 months or so and wear a head band to hide the roots. LOL

I was too. Took me 2 years before I worked up to doing it. Now it’s no big deal. It’s all in what you get used to.

I feel reasonably safe anyway. I didn’t need any politician to tell me it was a good idea to stay home. And I’m not going anywhere based on what they say either. LOL
