Scandinavian socialism is often thought of as proof that conservative ideas about the free market and the economy are wrong and that socialism and high taxes work. However, this claim is incorrect for a number of reasons - Scandinavia actually proves that these ideologies and policies do not work.

It’s an interesting and compelling model they have.
Sweden has one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the world, has no minimum wage laws and it has school voucher which allows you to pick whatever school you want to send your kids to, public or private.
On the other hand it hammers individuals with high tax rates including high VAT rates. People making lower incomes are not exempt from paying taxes, everyone contributes.
And the government uses those taxes to provide people with health care, free college education and retirement benefits.
To summarize their philosophy...
- do not kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, ie corporations and businesses. Instead they treat them well and nurture them.
- They accept the fact that a majority of people are irresponsible with their money. They don’t save for kids education, medical care and retirement, and when the SHTF they expect someone else to pay for them. Recognizing this human weakness, the swedes have decided to have a big chunk of what they earn be taken by the state as a form of forced savings for things like education, health and retirement and safety net.
- most of these plans are administered by local governments, not the national government, thus making it easier to keep the politicians and bureaucrats in line
- Additionally Swedes, and Scandinavians in general, have another important thing going for them. They tend to be more conscientious and less corrupt, thus making these type of programs more likely to succeed. Though, that may change with the influx of third worlders.

Pauls book is different from other politicians books. Instead of repeating platitudes, he and his co-author did actual research, concluding: Its not true that the Scandinavian countries are socialist.
