Meat dishes are to be slashed by 20 percent in schools, universities and hospitals in a major move to cut greenhouse gases linked to livestock.
Public sector caterers have vowed to hit the target as part of a pledge which also aims to boost peoples health by lowering consumption of animal products.
The meals being reduced in canteens and kitchens across the UK are eaten by a quarter of the population.
Hitting the 20 per cent target would remove nearly 20 million lbs of meat from plates every year equivalent to 45,000 cows or 16 million chickens.
Farmers livelihoods will be adversely affected by the changes.
The #20percentlessmeat pledge was launched in trade magazine Public Sector Catering. [ ]
The move follows recommendations in January from the UKs official climate change advisers.
It also reflects warnings by the World Health Organization and doctors that high consumption of processed meat raises the risk of cancer.

I’m starting to think these people are clinically insane.
They’re just cheap
How can you have any pudding if you don’t eat yer meat?
My late Grandmother was a nutritionist at a large hospital in Iowa. She always complained it was impossibly to create a variety of healthy options because the budget was “a joke”, to quote her. You’re forced into cheap carbs.
LOL- perfect- make people enjoy life less for absolutely no legitimate reason whatsoever- Fascism
More meat for their social masters.
Why not pure soylent green?
LOL when I went to school in the 1970s there was no meat in the school lunches. It looked like meat but one taste and you knew it was just a bunch of filler.
The chocolate ration has been increased from 16 grams to 12 grams.
There’s meat in a hospital meal?

So through no fault of her own your grandma was indirectly hated by thousands of patients, due to unpalatable/inedible hospital meals.
That sucks.
My dad could hardly eat anything in the hospital. The food was not good, to put the nicest spin on it.
No, just certifiably evil.
