An Ontario recycling company is reminding residents to use some discretion when getting rid of unwanted items after someone attempted to recycle a sword.
The Bluewater Recycling Association in South Huron said in a Facebook post titled "Most Unwanted -- April Edition" that someone put a metal sword into a "blue box" recycling bin.
The post said the sword "was found before going through our machinery or it could have caused expensive damage to our machines and serious health and safety issues for our employees."
The association said the sword's former owner might have been better off turning the weapon over to a second-hand store.
"Just because something is made of metal and may be perfectly recyclable at a local scrap yard, does not mean it is acceptable in the blue box for recycling," the post said.
"Placing pots and pans, bake ware, chains, electrical extension cords, nuts and bolts, etc. in the blue boxes simply adds to the contamination and down time in the processing facility. This also has the potential to add risk of injury for our employees."
Please contact me if you have any swords you want to recycle.
Ya...me too. But...I'm no expert...it looks like your basic low end wall-hanging sword and nothing of any real value.
Someone gave me a cheap copy of a Samurai sword around 25 years ago. At least I thought it was cheap. I still think it was a copy but turned out to be much tougher steel than I at first believed.
Geez, don’t do that..it could be a collectible katana,
Article goes to all the trouble to say how bad this was, but doesn’t explain what the blue box is or what is supposed to go in it.
I used to see so much unrecyclable crap in my office recycle bin, I think they just take it straight to landfill. I’ve heard it called wishful recycling because people wish the stuff could be recycled.
Dont put loaded guns in the shredder either.
Per city regs I have blue recycle bags and white normal ones.
I use them randomly.
They all go to the landfill.
I know a guy in Texas who hates Hi Point guns so much he has a barrel full of junk ones...
I remember a real good clip, I don’t think this is it, but

What B.S. Everybody knows Ontario’s recycling racket is a total sham and EVERYTHING goes into the trash after they win their kick-back city contracts.
Ottawa’s government inspectors are not even ALLOWED on the premises of recyclers, and they go along with it because this is billion-dollar B.S.
...But what a delight it is to see self-righteous Canadians fuss and chastise each other for not putting the right things into the proper rat-infested bins!
Maybe the Canadian mounties should have a sword buy-back day, eh?
China stopped buying recyclables and the market has dropped.
Ahh “Recycling” the process that makes everyone feels good but in reality it all goes into the landfill
Cmon...No imagination!! Send the unwanted sword to John Deere, where it can be turned into a plowshare.
LOL Excellent!
