Few players in Packers history, if not NFL history, have left a list of achievements and milestones as long and as illustrious as Willie Davis.
Davis, 85, died today, in a Santa Monica, Calif., hospital. His wife, Carol, said her husband had been hospitalized for about a month with kidney failure and passed away peacefully.
"The Green Bay Packers Family was saddened today to learn about the passing of Willie Davis," said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. "One of the great defensive players of his era, Willie was a significant contributor to the Packers' five NFL championship teams during the 1960s.

His business career after his Hall of Fame football career was just as impressive. He earned his MBA at the University of Chicago while still a player, and ran a broadcasting company, and sat on several corporate boards. A brilliant man.
I grew up about 40 miles from Green Bay in the 1960s.
My dad had a friend who had played for the Packers in the 1930s who got us tickets for the games at Lambeau.
I have all of their autographs, including this fine gentleman, may he rest in peace.
The best thing about those great Packer teams was what they did off the field.
I guess he opted not to stay on dialysis. AFAIK if you stay on dialysis, there should be no death from kidney failure. Dialysis is hard to take and not everybody wants to endure it.

Growing up in Wisconsin in the 50s and 60s, he was one of my heroes!
