Ventilators: Do they save or kill Covid patients?
American Thinker ^ | 04/14/2020 | Bill Choslovsky

Doctors are now wondering if ventilators actually accelerate death or kill Covid patients.   And with death rates of 80% or more for those put on ventilators, they surely should wonder.  Anything that results in death 80% of the time should be questioned.

Remember, our harsh lockdown measures to “flatten the curve” are motivated in large part to help ensure there are sufficient ventilators for when people get sick.  Amazing if those ventilators now prove to be of little therapeutic value.

Likewise, except in a few hotspots, hospital beds and ventilators are not in short supply.  In fact, many hospitals and medical offices are empty and some closing.  In Illinois, despite claims the sky is falling and criticisms of the federal government, less than half the ventilators are deployed.   To be sure, this is likely due, in part, to the harsh (lockdown) measures.

All said: (1) ventilators may be of little therapeutic value, and (2) regardless of their utility, there are few, if any shortages.

Since this is an airborne virus Ventilators are used for many patients. what is the disinfecting means and is it efficient or can this just compound the problem

A 25 year old man in West Virginia was on a ventilator for almost 2 weeks and ended up passing away.

I am not a doctor, but I can’t help but wonder if something else may have helped save him. Did he get chloroquine?

Or the patients who end up on ventilators are already the most sick and likely to die. Just pointing out 80 percent doesn’t really mean anything. Is this guy embarking on a true study that will encompass all the variables?

I didn't know that they taught medical classes in the Harvard Law School. Is there anything lawyers don't know?

It might be a lot of people die when put on ventilators because only the worst cases require ventilators.

“Or the patients who end up on ventilators are already the most sick and likely to die. “

Ventilators are for those with severe lung failure. No other choice.

You can definitely damage lungs with a vent. It’s coming to a conclusion that use of a vent with COVID-19 needs to be restricted to low pressure use as if venting a young child.

“ventilators may be of little therapeutic value”

Roll them out into the hall and. let them die.

The problem with your question is there is 0 support for the ventilators even doing anything to improve this situation.

My wife is a nurse and as she tells it ventilators are already next to a death sentence because so many things go wrong with them. Extremely high infection rates even for patients without a pre-existing condition or complicating illness, like those recovering from a surgery.

80% does mean something, at the morbidity rate we need to ask is it really helping or hurting, the answer must be determined as opposed to blindly continuing this treatment.

Bi-pap is the answer, yes they are horrible to use but less pressure on the lungs and way less chance of a deep infection that ventilators are known for.

First choice needs to be the chloroquine though for treatment

I’m betting that HCQ has at least twice the effective rate of ventilators in bringing Covid-19 victims to recovery.

I’m not a Doctor either, but the extra 100lbs that young man was carrying around certainly had something to do with his passing. Sad.

I doubt physicians are “blindly” and willy-nilly sedating people and placing them on ventilators just because. Patients are mechanically ventilated because they are unable to breathe and oxygenate on their own, not as a checklist treatment item.

This might be seen as a grossly insensitive comparison, but I was watching the Dr. Pol show the other night and a guy brought in a pig who was having trouble breathing.

The doctor told him that the pig was grossly overweight and that the extra fat was actually impinging on his lung function.

And the pig did not even have coronavirus.

Actually you are wrong, my wife does it at dr direction, it is being used as a checklist option for serious covid illnesses. Many 9 in fact most) are not at the failing to oxygenate stage

Roll them out into the hall and. let them die.

With an 86% failure rate, it is almost the same thing.

God bless the Doctors, Nurses and Therapists who take on such a forlorn hope.

We need (and may already have) effective antiviral treatments that prevent the massive lung failure in the first place.

From what I understand, they are already dead when doctors put them on ventilators. If there’s a 10% chance they might live, you go for it. 10,000 people on ventilators mean 1,000 will survive who would otherwise had died without the “Hail Mary”.
