Russias Foreign Ministry has accused the U.S. State Department of spreading disinformation by not mentioning Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in a Facebook post about the International Day of Human Space Flight. [ ]
Not noting this is disinformation and a base trick of the post-truth epoch, the Russian ministry said on its own page.

Based on the reputation of Soviet workmanship Gagarin was indeed a very brave man to strap himself into that flying bomb.
What would the price for refusing be, in the USSR?
Never mind anyone else getting the glory.
For want of an “O” ring?
The Russians are a different breed.
They do some thing really well and fail miserably at others.
I would rather they be our ally than enemy.
Who ‘profits’ from keeping each country an adversary?
Just imagine the trout fishing in that vast wilderness.
The State Department never forgave Russia for abandoning Communism.
Yuri Gagarin, first man in space. You can’t take them from them. Gagarin died in a plane crash just 7 years later.
Also, it was commonly reported that Yuri said that he didn’t see God in space. However, it turns out that was atheistic propaganda promulgated by Krushchev himself. In reality, Gagarin was a Christian believer. Check out this interesting article:

Actually there are currently no Russians on the Red Wings roster. Which is probably a reason they suck so much.
I once taught a class of adults who thought it was Neil Young who was the first man on the moon.
I countered by singing Sweet Home Alabama.
He is worthy of respect. Just curious if Russia includes our pioneers in their celebrations.
Russians have a point in this. Gagarin was the first man in space.
Me too.
I wonder why he wasn’t mentioned.
So you’d rather read about Kardashians?
Gagarin was a real hero. State should have mentioned it because it makes them look either ignorant or parochial or both. And that reflects badly on the rest of US. Once upon a time, we owned the future. And we threw it away.
“Johnny, out there in space it’s raining soup, and we don’t even know about soup bowls. Larry Niven, Lucifer’s Hammer
One of the reasons I sort of like President Trump is that he has a vision of us learning to make soup bowls.
An absolute truth... Worth repeating...
"The State Department never forgave Russia for abandoning Communism."
“Because the first human to survive a launch into space is not really meaningful in the grand sense. Its not like theres a huge national celebration of John Glenn either. Landing live humans on the moon? Yeah thats a big freaking deal.”
Without that first survivable launch, there would not have been a moon landing. Hell, it motivated the heck out of our guys! Knowing it CAN be done is half the battle! And if THEY can do it, we SURE CAN!
I feel bad....I couldn’t tell you the name of one astronaut at the present time. It’s like we live in different worlds. (That was clever...yes?)
Did Russia mention that Yuri Gagarin’s flight was sabotaged because he was a political threat to power?
Yuri Gagarin and all of the early Space pioneers had guts to climb on top of any of those rockets.
I was more of a fan of the first two classes of Astronauts in the US. I looked at the Russians as decent players, but for the wrong team.
After 50 years, its time to start recognizing all of them.
I would love to see the US taking the lead in bringing humans to LEO, to the moon, and beyond.
