New President Trump Tweet—Opening Up The Lockdown?
Twitter ^ | 04/13/20 | Donald J. Trump

For the purpose of creating conflict and confusion, some in the Fake News Media are saying that it is the Governors decision to open up the states, not that of the President of the United States & the Federal Government. Let it be fully understood that this is incorrect. It is the decision of the President, and for many good reasons. With that being said, the Administration and I are working closely with the Governors, and this will continue.

A decision by me, in conjunction with the Governors and input from others, will be made shortly!

He can use the National Defense Production Act to end-run recalcitrant governors and order businesses to reopen.

Which is delicious irony as it was Dems who pushed him to invoke NDPA in the first place.

Seems like it. I would guess opening up the country with social distancing to continue, ban on gatherings over 100 people?

I would assume NYC area continues to be locked up.

According to one article, the Surgeon General was saying May or June.

That seems insane relative to the downward spiral of truth to the hype.

It appears it is only the Sanctuary Cities that have the big problems

They should remain in lock dow and I agree with what you said about the rest of the country.

NYC is likely to have something approaching herd immunity for COVID-19 as much as anywhere else in the US. They could be opened up first. Not that other places that aren’t currently at issue shouldn’t already be open.

“He can use the National Defense Production Act to end-run recalcitrant governors and order businesses to reopen.”

Sure, with a separate order for each business.

But that does not mean they will actually be in business. Every business needs customers and suppliers and for their employees to show up.

Can he federalize the National Guard?

Eisenhower used the NG to open up an Arkansas school, Trump using them to open up the country. Would be incredible optics.

MAGA!

It had better not be 12-18 months as some are suggesting, or this country will be absolutely run into the ground and it will take 40 years to recover, if we ever do.

At Friday’s briefing POTUS announced that his new “open up the country” Task Force (doctors, governors, economic advisors) would have some news on Tuesday.

With all the helicopter money floating down this week, now would be the very best time to open everything back up.

Fact of the matter is most of us are going along with National House Arrest for one reason, and one reason only:

Trump asked us to.

Once he pulls the rug out from under that all bets are off.

Eh. It’s a mixed decision, with different entities having different say for different parts.

President Trump has authorities he can rescind. State Governors have authorities they can rescind or implement.

The media is showing their traditional convenient confusion about who does what, just like they blamed Trump for NYC public hospitals failing to properly stock DR supplies.

Most governors will follow Trump since most states are not having any serious problems like NYC. And with Cuomo now saying he wants to open things up, I see nothing stopping Trump from doing so.

As time and testing go on I think they’ll find that a lot more people have antibodies for this virus than they realize considering the prevalence of asymptomatic ‘stealth carriers’. This will put a couple extra zeroes behind the dot in the death rate percentage.

Note that that statement was made in reference to multiple smaller shutdowns, over the course of 12-18 months before they are all done.

Even at that, they should be much more localized if they occur at all. You’re right, though even for the smaller ones, they’ll be another stumbling block - though I suspect that if there is a known pattern, that our economy is flexible enough that it could do better that expected under such conditions.
